4K Support?
Is there any support for native for 4K resolution and fullscreen modes without blurring the graphics? I used to have a 1080p display but it broke down on me last year and now I have a 4K HDTV as my current PC display, and according to PC Gaming Wiki the game appears to only support up to 1080p.

It's actually worse than that. The game is 640x360 before being flipped vertically into a 1920x1080 framebuffer, which is stretched to 4K.

Best you can do is set the Filter to none. I'm not going to be releasing a resolution mod for this game; I am the author of the software used to verify the resolution on PCGW.

I second 4K support, though i plan to play on steam deck mainly. Big screen pixels is nice sometimes. I'm sure it's feasible.

Thanks for your hard work as usual Kal. Special K is one of the main tools in my toolkit for PC gaming.

i already post it on steam best what you can do its use borderless window with 1080p

its slightly sharper then just borderless from the game

but a bug usually happen breaking borderless window screen and return it to be a small window

so basically all what developers need to do, add "sharper mode" to the borderless "full" window

simple

Why asking for ultra HD for a 2D pixelated game that replicates the Saturn?

Because we are 25 years removed from the Saturn and it would be nice for the game to look good on displays that most people are using. It is completely possible to emulate the look while also taking into account the modern tech that most people are using. The art in the game itself is gorgeous, I just wish it was presented in a better way.

It often looks blurry on a 4k display when you can't run at native resolution.
You might have some luck with the Steam app Lossless Scaling. It can be run directly from the .exe so it doesn't have to be launched through Steam. This program has helped me upscale several pixel art games without any issue. It's lightweight and has no bloat.

I don't have a 4K monitor so I can't test it myself but I've used it for some way old pixel art games and it was a perfect fix. I usually use it for 1:1 upscaling.

We will look into scaling in the future. To be completely transparent we're limited by a small staff and getting the game out in a playable state was our top priority. I can assure everyone we'll be working on making it perfect as we go along. Right now we're starting with game breaking bugs and things like controller input compatibility. Gameplay first, shiny second. But we definitely aren't gonna ignore it. We're the weirdos that completely redid our sprites in the last game for better shading and looks.

We do find the input extremely valuable though.

I myself am pushing for an Ultra-Wide mode if we can somehow do it. (Since playing Chrono Trigger in UWHD I definitely see the appeal to having more screen.)

Personal thank you for your attention to our game.

Just to follow up on the last post, if you use

-screen-fullscreen 1 -window-mode exclusive

For launch options, the 360p buffer will be output -directly- at screen resolution. It'll avoid a 1080p copy, which means potentially sharper pixels.

I was gonna mention this program too, it has helped me with certain games that have smoothing applied when scaling to higher resolutions (e.g. Shovel Knight, CrossCode) or have terrible high-resolution support (e.g. any PC ports of 2D games by Inti Creates, the PC port of COTTON REBOOT!), or have poor UI scaling for higher resolutions (e.g. Renegade Ops, Dust: An Elysian Tail). The good thing about Lossless Scaling that it's basic features for 2D sprite-based games is free but it's a program I highly recommend getting the full version for.

It'll add latency unfortunately because it uses the Windows magnification API, which is a service provided by the DWM.

The same reason many people emulate games from older systems (Saturn included) with nearest-neighbor scaling, 2D pixel art games generally look better without any blurring applied when upscaling to higher resolutions. Not to mention Freedom Planet 1 didn't have this issue despite being a completely different engine.

Thank you very much for the response and I'm glad my input was help. I'm really looking forward to playing Freedom Planet 2 since I really enjoyed the first game.
