Same. I personally can't play these platformers with keyboard so I'm really holding off until I can get the PS5 controller working.

I've tried changing all of the controller settings both in steam and the individual game. The controller is picked up when going into the controller settings but it has zero response in game. Also the PS5 controller works perfectly fine in most other games I play.

Hopefully someone can shed some light on this because I really want to play this game.

Odds are, it doesn't support DirectInput (which is the generic driver Playstation's Dualshocks use).
Many games now, if not most of them, support XInput (which is more specialized driver Xbox controllers use).

So, sorry to say, but if you use Dualshock controllers, be prepared to always struggle with getting them to work on games.
They do make programs that can change Dualshock's inputs to read as XInput, though.

All three major console controllers should work. Please use the native Steam drivers for those controllers however. Third party programs may interfere with the controller API.

I use no 3rd party software to use my PS5 controller so I know that is not an issue on my end. Also I have disabled and enabled all of the specific controller configs to make sure nothing was overriding anything and still no activity in game whatsoever.

I can boot up the game in big picture mode and see the controller buttons working in the config window (where you can configure the buttons) but nothing in game.

The only current solution I see is going into the steam controller config and manually mapping all the keys used in game to specific buttons on the controller. I usually hate doing this because built in controller support plays way smoother then making the controller emulate the keyboard (or certain keys).

I've used my dualshock controller to play plenty of games that do not directly support DirectInput out of the box. Any game/launcher that I play outside Steam, I add as a non-steam game to utilize the built-in steam controller drivers/settings, and it never fails for games outside of steam so why would it for a Steam game, where even the Dev said the big 3 controllers are supported. The issue is that I'm not even able to use steam to rebind keys in-game or for it to imitate the an Xinput device like I can for other games.
I've had no problems using a PS4 controller. Make sure the Steam overlay is enabled in-game and use Steam's controller middleman stuff. I can't say I know how to use it at all, but in that Steam system I have my PS4 controller's buttons all mapped to the correct spots. I don't really understand how it works or how to navigate all the Steam controller menus but I have a notification about a controller profile and when I use it I tend to have less issues in other games.

The game has a bug where controller inputs show the picture of the wrong thing. Up is left, left is some Analog -/+ thing. That's a visual bug so double check that you set your controls right so it doesn't confuse you.

My PS5 controller is working fine, but it also has some very noticeable input delay. I've disabled the Steam inputs and all third party software so it's just running off of the controller drivers, but even then it feels just very noticeably less responsive than on keyboard.

My Fix was to go the the games "properties", then to controller settings, lastly you have to DISABLE Steam Input entirely. It was probably overridding the games own controller/input detection.

Once I did this my buttons were picked up and I could set them in the in-game button config window without no problem.

Hope this helps others

Make sure Steam Input is disabled. I've asked Valve countless times to make an option to disable it by default, but they refuse.

Is it a bug that only sony icons are available and the nintendo/microsoft ones still display as generic numbers?

That's a fair bet.
Otherwise, they would have lumped them together as "Nintendo/Microsoft".

Probably just an oversight.
The game did just come out, after all, there's likely going to be a couple teething issues. But at least it's nothing serious.

controller worked for me whether that was on or not. only issue is the gamepad icons are missing for everything except sony controllers.

Disable HID input in Special K's gamepad options, the game reads XInput and DirectInput simultaneously. DirectInput is layered on top of RawInput/HID, so blocking that will have the game only use XInput and should fix this.
