I've tried changing all of the controller settings both in steam and the individual game. The controller is picked up when going into the controller settings but it has zero response in game. Also the PS5 controller works perfectly fine in most other games I play.
Hopefully someone can shed some light on this because I really want to play this game.
Odds are, it doesn't support DirectInput (which is the generic driver Playstation's Dualshocks use).
Many games now, if not most of them, support XInput (which is more specialized driver Xbox controllers use).
So, sorry to say, but if you use Dualshock controllers, be prepared to always struggle with getting them to work on games.
They do make programs that can change Dualshock's inputs to read as XInput, though.
I use no 3rd party software to use my PS5 controller so I know that is not an issue on my end. Also I have disabled and enabled all of the specific controller configs to make sure nothing was overriding anything and still no activity in game whatsoever.
I can boot up the game in big picture mode and see the controller buttons working in the config window (where you can configure the buttons) but nothing in game.
The only current solution I see is going into the steam controller config and manually mapping all the keys used in game to specific buttons on the controller. I usually hate doing this because built in controller support plays way smoother then making the controller emulate the keyboard (or certain keys).
I've used my dualshock controller to play plenty of games that do not directly support DirectInput out of the box. Any game/launcher that I play outside Steam, I add as a non-steam game to utilize the built-in steam controller drivers/settings, and it never fails for games outside of steam so why would it for a Steam game, where even the Dev said the big 3 controllers are supported. The issue is that I'm not even able to use steam to rebind keys in-game or for it to imitate the an Xinput device like I can for other games.
The game has a bug where controller inputs show the picture of the wrong thing. Up is left, left is some Analog -/+ thing. That's a visual bug so double check that you set your controls right so it doesn't confuse you.
Once I did this my buttons were picked up and I could set them in the in-game button config window without no problem.
Hope this helps others
Otherwise, they would have lumped them together as "Nintendo/Microsoft".
Probably just an oversight.
The game did just come out, after all, there's likely going to be a couple teething issues. But at least it's nothing serious.
controller worked for me whether that was on or not. only issue is the gamepad icons are missing for everything except sony controllers.

Thanks, I was really pulling my hair out trying to solve this!
