I'm not a fan of the changes over the years either. I haven't played this game in 4+ months, but saying it's "dead" isn't true. People need to quit spamming that lazy comment in every game sub when they are butthurt...

You play a match of Tarkov and it's like 1/3 of the playerbase is confirmed cheating if not more, any recent CoD has at least 1 cheater in every match but usually more (and often you'll have at least one on both teams so everyone loses.)
This on the other hand suffers more from people from other nations joining servers they have no business in with how awful the lag compensation ends up working and how cosmically high their ping shoots through the roof.
Even still, I usually don't see a single cheater or even ping abuser in a match.
That makes this one of the only PvP games I'm even willing to play anymore with how bad most of them have provably gotten.
You're worse than someone thinking everyone's a cheater because at least they're right sometimes, you're wrong every time.
I can find videos of the perspectives of cheaters openly cheating to showcase the cheats as a means to sell them. Videos, plural.
Are all the people you meet in 5 stars and up gonna be cheaters? No. But it happens often enough now that most likely in 50-60% of your games you have at least SOMEONE abusing something, either a glitch or 3rd party software, to get an unfair advantage. When I dug into it, it suddenly explained everything - how they constantly seem to see me through nearly impossible conditions like rain/fog and dense foliage and shadows, where I can barely see a spot moving behind those same bushes; how people do running hipfire headshots with as little info as possible turning corners; how they "know" stuff they seemingly shouldn't.
A lot of cheat makers talked about how they use hunt to code their cheats, because the Anti-Cheat is so laughable they use it as a testing ground.
If you want a cheater/abuser free experience, the game is probably the worst it's been regarding that so far. Anyone saying "no it's not true" either are low stars (though even there now you see cheaters de ranking just to have even MORE unfair advantages, the losers), or are closet cheating themselves and are trying to gaslight others.
Whatever you choose, just know that even low stars are not safe anymore.
Telling people to go to a more successful game is not the own you think it is, and I don't even like or play fortnite.
