can not start the game

After a few restarts and a few reinstalls, I can't seem to start the game. I have over a 100 hours of game time and it's worked fine up until today and then seemingly for no reason, it just will not start. CA, y u do dis?

I doubt you can blame CA for this, seems like it's on your end as no one else has this problem.
Uninstall all mods.
Make sure you deleted all old files before you re-install the game(you might've already done this). Make sure your anti-virus wasn't updated recently and decided your game had to be quarantined(i've had this happen to me with another game).
Have you verified the game file's integrity? It might be something as silly as a single missing launch file.

Any of these could help you, if they don't could you please tell us more than ''the game will not start''.

Well, apparently restarting and reinstalling everything a forth time fixed it. I have no clue why as I did nothing different from any of the other times. Curious, no?

Yep.

And yes, contrary to what Hannibal said, given the game has stopped working for so many with a wide range of PC specs and circumstances, for no discernible reason and with no reliable, proven solution...
It's CA... but we all know they messed up with this game even before this sudden failure to run 'curse' started or their developmental direction went awry.

Every great dev screws something up at some point. The greater the dev and more epic and beloved the IP, the greater and more epic the screw up (don't believe me... just look at EA... only one letter difference too...)

Yup, same here. Game launcher is utterly ♥♥♥♥♥♥.
I can't even uninstall my mods to launch the game - the launcher just freezes and closes on me.
File validaton won't work either.

Edit: deleted all mods as well, no change.

There seems to be an issue with updating large mods, where the launcher keeps downloading the mod. I had issues with GCCM not updating earlier this day.

Can't load my savegames or start a new campaign. It crashes at the last part of loading. Deactivated all mods - not working. Deleted all mods - same. Even did a complete reinstallation of WH2 - still crashes. What seemed odd: i play in windowed mode and my open tab in Firefox did crash too at (nearly) the same time...

Ok so i found kinda a fix
If you click on "play" or "continue" BEFORE the launcher can validate your dlc, it will be fine.

I can't play it either. It says there is a patch to dowload five minutes in the future, it never downloads it and won't start.

SOLVED IT!

Ok, so basically CA ♥♥♥♥♥♥ up the workshop. There are a lot of mods right now that are large in size and the downloader can't handle them.
For me the mod was Maruk'a GCCM pack

You either need to disable the mod or install the alternate version.

It happened to Mixus legendary lord pack 1 aswell, which he had to divide into two downloads to fix. Theres definately something wrong with the downloader at the moment.
