I’d recommend just trying out the original factions first to get a feel for the game and which mechanics you enjoy. If you own both TWW1 and 2 you can download the mortal empires campaign map as DLC for TWW2. This is a combined map, although some parts have been cut due to performance issues.

There’s a lot of FLC, usually being a new Legendary lord for a particular faction. As for good DLCs, I’d recommend Tomb Kings and Vampire Coast.

If you want to play Mortal Empires which is game 1 and 2 combined you need to own both games. The first game also gives you access to the Empire, Dwarfs, Orks, Vampires, and Bretonnian factions which you can play as in Mortal Empires.

All of the DLC's are based off of if you like a certain playstyle or race/faction. They don't lock other factions mechanics into another factions DLC. So if you like say Skaven and you want the DLC's for them you'd want to buy the Prophet and the Warlock & The Shadow and the Blade. Those 2 DLC's would give you all of the Skaven content currently out other than the free to download Tretch Craventail DLC.

If say you think Tomb Kings looks absolutely stupid and you would never play them, then you'd lose nothing by not purchasing said DLC. They would still appear on the map and do their own thing, but you wouldn't be able to select and play them without the DLC.

The best thing to buy from a what gets you the most bang for your buck would be to buy warhammer 1. You do not need to install it only own it, which will allow you to play the Mortal Empires Campaign and play as the Old World races.

I'd suggest you first finish the Vortex campaign with any of the Lords (Faction) from a single race, then try the same with another Lord (Faction) from a different race.

Gonna post this over from another thread

That Regional Visibility mod is kind of redundant now, region visibility is now tied to Public Order.
Oh damn. Thanks for all the answers! Those are alot to process. I'll be taking my time playing this. The game is fun and deep, so it might took a long time for me to get bored. Thanks again !

Like others have said, just pick and choose between what appeals to you. Practically speaking, most people won't be able to play through all the DLC content anyway. So, for example, if you really like elves, then consider picking up the queen and the crone DLC which expands the High Elf and Dark Elf factions. Or if you really want to play Dwarves, Total War: Warhammer 1 essentially acts as DLC for this game, and will unlock Dwarves and other races from that game. And again, like others have said, don't feel like you have to buy all the DLC at once. Play around with the base game and see what you like.

Have fun!

The Vortex Campaign is like what you'd usually only have in total war games prior with the difference off it having a kinda story and trust me, you can have plenty of fun in the vortex, without needing TWW1... I dont get why people think they need it to have a good time with TWW2. In the Vortex campaign for free you get 14 lords spread across 5 races... That it self is alot of content..
