River trolls question
Hi all! Finally my favourite faction got a rework AND we've got a bunch of trolls too, my favourite unit.
Now, I've tried some 1v1 test and stone trolls are performing really well, even against AP units. What is confusing me are river trolls. This guys, by their stats and skill, are meant to block enemy. 40MD and -8 MA to enemies are a good spot to think this. But, I still see that they take a good amount of damage and can't hold so effective. In most cases, they perform the same or worst of the simple troll version. So, my guess is that they are meant to be on frontline WITH other troops to just rebuff enemies.

Someone tried them and could add some tips? Because right now I wanted to do a troll army, using river in front with stone at flank, but it doesn't seems to be worth it.

Also, are we missing tech for trolls? Can't see any for them in the tech tree.

Going full troll is probably a bad idea anyway because of anti-large units and their garbage leadership. Trolls were never meant to be the frontline, they always were there to support the front line. I don't think much changed with the new trolls.

When I played as the new dragon elf, he had a building that buffed dragons. Check the buildings around paunch to see if there's a troll building. That might be where the troll buff comes from, rather than tech.

Well, the only use of river trolls instead of the normal version is to just rebuff the enemy then? Because stone trolls are a effective upgrade of the nornal ones, and yeah, they perform really well. When charging, they really shine, doing HUGE damage, but I'm not finding a good place for river trolls, with 40MD and -8 MA I was thinking that they could hold the line a little against infantry or some anti-inf unit, but it doesn't seems so.

I assume they are designed to be a slightly better support unit so that they don't necessarily do more damage than regular trolls, but their debuff makes it a bit easier for the troops around them to fight off the enemy.

Might be best to just have a small number of river trolls, like a couple, to do the -8 debuff to enemies while mixed in with the front line, maybe?

The best use of trolls has always been to have them literally /inside/ another unit. Like blob-style.

So imagine trying to crack a unit of Black Orcs that has river trolls standing in it, fighting with them.

River trolls work best sitting in another unit, effectively using a unit or two or goblins as ablative armor.

Its the one thing they really got over regular trolls, seems to do a pretty good job of it.

Well this is what I was thinking, thx u guys to share your opinions to me, I will try them as support unit and see how it goes. -8 MA is a good rebuff.

Well to beginn with Rivertrolls are amphibic. So having a bunch of them in a desert isn't that clever
