Most of the other puzzles only give a reward of 1000 and a minor artifact. However, the cost of doing so with a low-level hero is usually outweighed by the reward. The XP gain for the successful hero is also significant compared to a regular hero action against faction settlements or characters.
You pay a cost depending on hero level, much like a lord. Regardless, any one who goes treasure hunting loses all action points for the remainder of the turn.
I did not know either. Makes treasure hunts actually worth doing. Thanks Razer!
Huh! They must have added that with the Vampirates.
