Fugliness of the game without SSAO

This is with "High" Tree and Grass settings, and "Ultra" terrain setting with SSAO disabled. As you can see, it looks absolutely awful and would fit right into a game from 12 years ago.

Since SSAO is so poorly optimised it's either this or an average of 40 FPS, which just isn't good enough. Without it FPS averages in the mid 50s with a mix of Ultra/High/Medium settings.

SSAO desperately needs some optimisation, amongst other settings. But this is shocking.

While I agree it needs optimisation ( along with other graphic and non-graphic aspects ) comparing it to a game of 12 years ago is gross exaggeration that does disservice to your complaints, as does the way you constantly make subtle assertions that it’s never going to be fixed.

Next is the fact your screen shots show you zoomed into a rediculously close camera angle focusing on trees in a low colour variance environment in the desert......no wonder you finding fault with it, your focusing in to the extent of being in first person perspective, which is not the focus of the game.

Overall, it’s not a priority currently for the devs that much is shown with patches, and imho that’s the right direction to take while the game is still being built / added to. Critical bugs, balance issues etc take a priority, we’ve only just had the first major balance pass and a new faction has been added so there’s going to be more balancing required and more critical bugs to address before they get to making excessively zoomed in graphics pretty and smooth.

That said, I’m sure your just going to take this post as a personal swipe at you and have a whine like a man child while attempting to belittle my perspective but before you do, take a moment to look at what your asking for and how you put accross you views.

Optional graphic enhancement features are not going to be given a high priority over bigger issues, that does not mean they’re never going be addressed nor the issues aren’t recognised.

I actually feel sorry for you dude, you’re so wound up about a graphic feature not working at peek performance while excessively zooming in on the worst case example you can find to try and peddle your exaggerations in an effort to do what? other than make yourself miserable. Just chill out and enjoy the game.

Seems like I'm not the only one, and that optimisation is in fact an issue.

Critical bug fixes, crash fixes AND optimisation should be the #1 priority. It hasn't been and its starting to not only frustrate me, but many others as well.

It's high time, regardless of what you "think they should do".

Never said it’s not an issue, all I’ve ever said and am saying again and will continue to say while the game is still being actively worked on is - devs aren’t going to prioritise pretty graphics that are OPTIONAL, no matter how you exaggerate and cherry pick stupidly close up examples and whine repeatedly.

Funny because the big patch that released for Tomg Kings had a entire section dedicated to guess what "Critical bug fixes, crash fixes AND optimisation" .

Solved quite a few issues(including one of the biggest issues for co-op and head to head multiplayer btw that would cause crashes and file corruption) that helped a lot of folks.

The best part is on the thread for the patch you said "they didn't do any". But you are also the guy who constantly does this in threads all over the place whenever you feel you have a chance to rag on CA and this you do.

This is asinine and just bloody ignorant.

I'll quote it DIRECTLY for you:

Technical and Performance improvements

General

Fixed a bug where the Campaign Map would flicker when the player minimized the game with ALT+TAB while changing graphics settings.
Fixed a crash when switching between maximum graphics settings and the “out of the box” “high” settings on AMD RX-480 GPU while running the game in DirectX12 (BETA).
Improved compatibility with the GTX 690 card, removing flickering, black terrain and low performance.
Fixed a crash that occurs on some AMD graphics cards when changing all graphics settings to their highest, then changing back to recommended settings.
Added recommended graphics settings for the GT 740 M card.

Campaign technical improvements:

Fixed a rare end turn crash when an agent was left as the only unit in a force, and dies of attrition at the end of the round.
FPS performance has been improved when zooming out to max distance on the Campaign Map on some configurations.
Fixed a Multiplayer Campaign desync in the end turn cycle caused by Campaign script.
Fixed a Head to Head Multiplayer Campaign crash in the Vortex Campaign which was caused by the Event Feed.
Fixed a Mortal Empires campaign crash during the End Turn cycle for the Lizardmen faction.
Fixed a DirectX 12 bug for SLI users, where the diplomacy colours map overlay and storm seas would flicker in campaign modes.
Fixed a crash that could occur when alt-tabbing out during load screens.
Fixed a rare crash that would occur when removing units from an army on an AI faction during the end turn sequence.
Fixed a crash when a Lord is disbanded after a hero is given the command to embed in the army.
Fixed an end-turn crash when a lord died and the only other unit left in the army was a hero.

There's no optimisation there that addressed the ACTUAL issue which is some settings being waaay too demanding and tanking FPS like nothing else, even on powerful gaming rigs.

So yes, they didnt do any. Go bury your head in the sand like Longtoke you mong.

Ah very mature. In the list they didn't do what ones you wanted so they did nothing. Hah. Right.

Also little "you mong" really? Are you a 13 year old living in a basement with that one?

There's no optimisation improvements there whatsoever. Know the difference. Crash fixes are always welcome of course, but the game's poor performance/optimisation has been an issue since release. It's nothing new and the game has been out for what, 5 months or so now?

I'm complaining about SSAO's optimisation primarily, and how poor it is. The images are just an example of what the game can look like without it. With it, it obviously looks much better, but runs like ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ because it's poorly optimised.

Capiche?
