Why is multiplayer so empty?
Hey guys! I see 11,646 people playing the game right now, but there are under 10 mp battles ongoing, and none open for joining. I usually play single player, so I'm not really accustomed to the multiplayer rooms, so I wonder how comes there are so few in multi? Is the room I'm seeing limited by location? (like I see only Europe where I'm from?)
Watching online battle of popular youtubers I was under the impression that the multiplayer scene is really active.

Because the vast majority of people playing Total War titles play them exclusively in singleplayer. Some years back CA said that only 5% of the playerbase actually played Shogun 2's much acclaimed multiplayer.

The youtubers you watch all play either quick battles or play with their own communities via discord/streams.

Quick battles are more active than server-skirmishes, campaign is a lot more active than quick battles.

It's this. That aside, too many disconnecting sore losers in multiplayer means the MP scene died early on and never had a chance to take off.

Actually I dont even picture how multiplayer works (didnt try, I'll only play such type of game with people I know, I'm not planning to do 5 1st turns of a campains 10.000 times)...

I mean the turn by turn part, ok I get it

- But what about battles that doesnt concern you? Are you forced to watch it? IF not, what are you supposed to do during those?

If you're playing co-op, the 'not involved' player can spectate, or they can be given troops by the 'main' player to help out with micro and whatnot. It can be a huge assistance, actually.

In a head-to-head campaign, the 'not involved' player can drop in and take control of the AI 'enemy' army, if they want to. Or they can spectate and help out the 'main player' as above.

Ho... nice, but... can you do that with more than 2 players?

Sadly not... which is a shame, cos I love it. It's a really nice chilled way to spend an evening with a friend (playing co-op. Head to head is crazy stressful...).

You manage to spend just one evening? I mean, The fastest campain I did was probably 40h or so... (and I skipped most of the battles)

Try entering Quick Battles and you shouldn't have a problem finding a game. Just make sure all of your mods are disabled.

H2H is heaps more fun than co-op. Its a shame that theres so many ♥♥♥♥♥♥ around that only want to do co-op though.

Most of the bigger youtubers have community discord servers at this point and have LFG sections in said servers, just join a few of them and i'm sure you will have a much easier time finding games.

When I was your age (13yo I guess: "2005") Everybody was "alone" when playing games (except for local MP, but it was almost exclusively fighting games), and no one cried about it
