How decent are Skinks?
I was wondering how well do skinks actually preform, i know they are the cannon fodder of Lizardmen and are only good for taking wall tower fire and flanking around the back, but i hear people sometimes saying there better than one might think.

What do you all think?

It depend what they go up against, they can more than hold there own against clanrats and stuff like that. Plus there lizardman so they rarely break anyway. There also much faster than saurus, so there better at flanking.

But they'll melt against anything better than standard unit and they can't deal with armor at all.

But for there price, there really not that bad. If your not going to fill your army to 20 then there's a very serious case to be made for grabbing two Skinks over one Saurus. Just remember that there's a lot of skill/trait that reduce the upkeep of saurus but not much for skink (don't use them on Krokgar since he has half upkeep on Saurus.

Yeah i know, im running into serious financial issues on Mazda, i think i might be a good idea to have a core of 3 saurus with more skinks to thicken the army.

Running a skink army leaves you with more funds to throw a few units of Kroxigors in with them for heavy support. Plus it ties into the theme and lore nicely. And you can use a Skink Chief for large/lord sniping with his awesome blowpipe.

I enjoy Lizardmen much more using Skinks instead of Saurus, which I find to be incredibly dull.

For Kroq-Gar you want all Saurus all the time. For everyone else, you want a decent mixture of Skinks in there too, upgrading to Chameleon Skinks as soon as you can afford to - DAMNED good skirmishers - unless you like paying through the nose for a very slow meatshield army that hits like a tank when it finally reaches the enemy.

And of course, Mazdamundi should be all Temple Guard for the late game.
Saurus is good but, when you dont have the best economy, its better to just use some skinks and kroxigors
They work pretty well together
The skinks can hold enemies in place while the kroxigors can clear the field

Ahhh right because they are born from the same species, i like that idea, a little skink with too big a head and his older brother krox keeping his ass safe.
Skinks know how to blow
Pipes.
Blowpipes.

Pretty much. They're spawned out of the same pools iirc. In battle, the Kroxigors get excited by the noises of the Skinks and they synergise well together as the Kroxigors' can reach over the Skinks.

Skink/Kroxigor/Slaan/Dino armies make Lizardmen much more fun imo. I try and keep Saurus out of them as much as possible, save a few Temple Guard for the tough targets.

The only skink you need are chameleon skinks, so suffice to say, skinks are pretty garbage.

Doesn't help their case that spending a couple turns to upgrade buildings to recruit the saurus warriors renders them nigh obsolete even in the early game.

That's true for Kroq-gar campaigns. Not so much for Maz. Even though you'll eventually be able to have Maz sit in an army of Temple Guard + big dinos, the early-midgame income for Maz + co. is tough to support many Saurus Warriors without Upkeep redux abilities. Until then, Skinks + Kroxigors and Feral Bastiladons/Stegadons are a preferred choice.

Chameleon Skinks are good in the fact that they have decent skirmish + melee stats and are one of your only few ways of pressuring enemy flying units.
