Change the way we get coins, now!
For every island you saved before finishing the game you get a coin. Simple as that.

Achievements should not be forced in my opinion. Forcing players to sacrifice missions just to get one achievement to progress in total is stupid.

Leaving the file editing part out, this is the idea. Subset is clever with their achievements, since they give you tangible rewards for clearing them, and in the process of getting them all you pretty much learn how to play the game effectively, including how to set up certain kinds of combos and get the most out of certain abilities. Sure, the "destroy three time pods" one is more of a joke, but most of the achievements are there to serve as an extended tutorial that is, for most people I imagine, fun to work through.

I think getting coins as a standard reward sounds like really boring gameplay and would shorten the life of the game. i enjoy the satisfaction from completing the unusual demands placed by the achievements and I think the existing system is brilliant and should stay.

Except for the secret squad, the amount of achievements required to unlock all squads is quite low. I got all (non-secret) squads by normal playing, not focusing on achievements at all.

But I wouldn't mind if there was some reward for compleeting a squad at a certain island level and difficulty, next to the medal.

I really like the achievement system and I think they are fun challenges. For those who don't like the challenge, you can get through them easily by using some console commands to help most of them trivial press ` (~ button next to 1) to open console and try typing 'kill' I believe this will kill all vek currently on map and allow you to go through any game without losing

I don't agree with OP.
So far i did not sacrifice any run in order to unlock achiv.
I managed to get enough coins to unlock all squads (beside the secret squad) while doing normal runs.

This sounds like a hasty judgment without actually trying for unlocks.

In practice, you'll get 2/5 of the achievements on accident in normal play, and need about 1/2 for unlocks. Sooooo.... not much grind. At all.

I think the way the unlocks work is fine. I almost unlocked every squad and haven't tried that hard. Just checked what there is to do before the run and then try it when it seems like I can afford it.

You have to get 30/55 achievements to unlock every normal squad, that's what 55ish% completion to get everything barring secrets? They're not asking you to scrape out every single achievement to get access to the "full game", in fact it's not OVERLY hard to get all of them. I'm a fairly middling player and I managed to get all of them inside of three days. Granted, I put in significant chunks of time (6-8 hours a day).

^ This. Squad achievements are basically advanced tutorials for each squad, encouraging you to try changing your playstyle.

What? No. Dumb idea. Play the game. I've played like 6 playthroughs and I have half the squads unlocked already.

Having to think an plan out approaches to obtain Achievements an Unlock rewards? Who woulda thought? Suggesting that the alternative to this should be to simply grind out victorys until you have everything is far less rewarding an really an obnoxious model. All I hear is "I want an easy way out." "I want to have everything the game has to offer without really putting effort into the game." Game hasn't even been out that long getting all the achievements is not some grueling endeavor, they're all reasonable to obtain an even though I haven't obtained them all yet, I'm fairly close an I haven't even been doing them on Easy difficulty. All but 1 can be earned on Easy difficulty. You guys should be able to handle this.

No.
Im fine with a challenge.

People who say if you understand your squad you will unlock them anyway... you can finish it on hardest difficulty without unlocking a single one.

All the people who agree with this system would rather have their stuff in an "easier" way as you dont even have to finish the mission successfully with them.

All the achievements do is forcing you to do stupid things. Imagine it like this:

"Please we are at the verge of dying, save us!"
"Yeah sure but first...lemme line up 4 of those aliens that keep destroying our power supply so that I get an achievement!"

If you go for achievements, what do you priotize, the achievement, or the actual mission, hm?

That is, by the way, not the core of this discussion. But yeah sure you can.

Lining up 4 enemies for laser achievement took all of 5 minutes to play zenith on easy mode, and just try to get as many enemies to 1 hp as possible, don't block spawns, dont kill anything.

Kori, I feel like you're arguing for arguing sake. How about acknowledging that unlocking all the known squads is at least 2x faster than in FTL, and that you will naturally unlock all of them if you beat the game with each in order like FTL as well? Or that it takes almost no time at all if you try actively? Or that more people are annoyed by the lack of unlockable content?

Don't just cherrypick arguments you think are weak.
