Leaving the file editing part out, this is the idea. Subset is clever with their achievements, since they give you tangible rewards for clearing them, and in the process of getting them all you pretty much learn how to play the game effectively, including how to set up certain kinds of combos and get the most out of certain abilities. Sure, the "destroy three time pods" one is more of a joke, but most of the achievements are there to serve as an extended tutorial that is, for most people I imagine, fun to work through.
But I wouldn't mind if there was some reward for compleeting a squad at a certain island level and difficulty, next to the medal.
So far i did not sacrifice any run in order to unlock achiv.
I managed to get enough coins to unlock all squads (beside the secret squad) while doing normal runs.
In practice, you'll get 2/5 of the achievements on accident in normal play, and need about 1/2 for unlocks. Sooooo.... not much grind. At all.
^ This. Squad achievements are basically advanced tutorials for each squad, encouraging you to try changing your playstyle.
No.
Im fine with a challenge.
People who say if you understand your squad you will unlock them anyway... you can finish it on hardest difficulty without unlocking a single one.
All the people who agree with this system would rather have their stuff in an "easier" way as you dont even have to finish the mission successfully with them.
All the achievements do is forcing you to do stupid things. Imagine it like this:
"Please we are at the verge of dying, save us!"
"Yeah sure but first...lemme line up 4 of those aliens that keep destroying our power supply so that I get an achievement!"
If you go for achievements, what do you priotize, the achievement, or the actual mission, hm?
That is, by the way, not the core of this discussion. But yeah sure you can.
Don't just cherrypick arguments you think are weak.
