Stuck in the campaign
So I've been everywhere I can get to by normal car and surface boat but I have no engines or thrusters that would let me make an aircraft so I don't know what to do next. So I'm wondering...

1) How do I drive across swamp? I'm hoping there are flight engines/thrusters in the swamp area? No amount of tinkering lets any vehicle I've built drive on the swamp stuff. They just grind to a stop. (I assume I need flight to get across the volcano area?)

2) How do I get salvage underwater? I got the diving bell but no sub I've tried has worked. Even the default sub can't slow down long enough to grab salvage or it flips upside down? I can go down, but not back up? If I try to go forward underwater it flips upside down. If I stop to grab salvage, it flips upside down.

Was having fun but now it's just frustrating.

So I came up with an out of the box workaround. I built a car that could jump across to the RAW engine, then rammed the salvage over and over up the hill to redeem it, then used that engine to make a vehicle with enough power to get into the swamp and grab the monster truck tires. Progress! I also practiced for hours with the default sub and managed to grab a few pieces finally but wow is that ever going to take some long-term practice.

Try moving the bouyancy control devices up, that should make it more stable

Default sub is a PITA to contorl, but it can be done. Turn on "show controls" and it'll tell you all the controls, and compare each to the thrusters. Here's what I remember:

Q = emergency surface

E = flood tanks, you can now dive.

W / S = nose down/up through trimming bow/stern banks. Only do 2-3 strokes at a time, as the sub does NOT react instantly. This is not an airplane.

A / D = activate side thrusters (the two outmost ones) to turn. A turns on the right one, D turns on the left one.

(Bonus: if you turn on BOTH, you will go forward!)

Space / X : forward / reverse thrust (via the 4 other thrusters. As you can guess, this goes in whatever direction you're pointing at (or opposite)

Left CTRL -- pickup magnet on/off.

So do dive, hit E once, then hit W 3 times, and WAIT. Bow should start to sink and the sub will do a major nose down. KEEP WAITING. It'll "bounce" a little, but eventually settle down to about 45-60 degrees down. Tap space to give a burst of speed, and you are off!

Super-bonus: hold down space, A, and D all together, and you engage flank speed, which for unmodified sub is like 34 knots! Regular forward is about 28-30 IIRC. The problem is you can't really turn at flank ,since both side thrusters are helping forward motion.

Regarding lava area... There are two ways to do this:

1) For a SHORT trip, you can use monster truck. Those tires will last a few seconds in the lava. REALLY.

2) For a LONGER trip, you will need to design your own hover platform, and "CONSIDER" adding retractable landing gear to make things easier on yourself. With no friction, you'll slide off any sloped ground. Putting down gear stops that. Remember hover platform is meant to STAY near the surface, and may not have the lifting capacity to lift cargo without some help from other things, like the gymbol jet or... other means.

I know this is a late post, but instead of a sub, I made a super heavy vehicle that drives on the bottom of the ocean. It can float kinda, for the salvage on the peaks, and go up very steep underwater slopes. It made it a lot easier for me at least.

To get out of the water I just drive to an island with a beach and the land engines kick in.
