How to "You don't have 11 players on the pitch"?

Just had the sweltering heat event happening, scored a touchdown and then happened to end up with 10 players on the field, with one additional player available on kickoff. You know, the kind of situation where there's the name of the player on the top right of the screen. Now I could exchange this player with any player on the pitch, but I can't seem to figure out how to simply PLACE him on it. This has happened a few times now, and everytime I have to confirm starting with not enough players on the pitch and that off-field player ends up in my endzone and I feel like I'm missing some obvious way to put him at, lets say, the LoS.
Does anyone have a clue how to do this properly?

try changing the formation with that drop down menu, that worked for me

Click with the left buttom on his name then with right buttom on the pitch.

I tried that, but to no avail. Gonna give the drop down idea a shot the next time it happens, thanks for the input!

If you wait long enough (time expires) it will actually toss your player on the field. You at least have your 11 players that way. Unfortunately, it generally tosses them on the front line which isn't always a good thing.

Alright, so at least I know now that it's not just me, being royally incompetent. Thanks for pointing that out, mater!

Also: changing formation via drop down menu does not help, in fact I had a scenario where using the drop down menu REMOVED one player from the field, and so my precious rat ogre ended up minding his own business, wild animal style in my endzone for half a game. Never save a formation that has less than 11 players on the field! It's inconvenient, but preventable.

i had this befor and know what and how to stop it. maybe a bit late but anyway never be looking at your players when the other team is setting up befor you at kick off. what ever players you are looking at when they end setting up will be gone and you will be unable to see him to place him. well hope this helps. fixed it for me so
