For bashing, that might need a qualifier. Orcs are the face of bashing teams, while high TV chaos is known to be exceptionally lethal due to easy access to mutations. Undead are a 'bashy' team and do well enough at it too. Nergle can be down right brutal as at bashing due to having easy mutation access as well.
He didnt ask that, He didnt ask for a run down on the best teams at one or the other, he asked which team is best at BOTH at the same time. I have been playing the board game for 20 years,
Undead are not good at passing, they are a RUNNING team. Ghoul picks up the ball and runs it...they rarely pass the ball, (depends on your playstyle of course), as they don't have designated throwers or catchers. Their players are meant to dodge through the opposing line weakened by your Mummy's and Wights or sit behind a wall similar to how the AI plays the game and then released closer to the endzone.
If you have to wait for a high TV chaos team to bash their way through the opposing team, you are playing them wrong.Every player has the potential (with horns) to be str 4 in a blitz. No other team can boast that ability. They are a team where everyone bar the big guy can do something with the ball, but they are a running team, not a early game passing team.
The Orc team is probably the best Bash and Pass team going, they all have armour 9 bar the goblins (7) and the thrower (8). Bar the Goblin they're all STR 3 or higher. Black Orcs are a good purchase at 80k and being able to get 4 in a starting team, Blitzers are also well placed at 80k and can be upto 4 places on the roster. Linemen aren't bad players, can take a beating and can do stuff with the ball. If you risk a Troll and a goblin, another Pass opportunity, or lunchtime, whichever takes your Trolls fancy. Rerolls are decently priced at 60k.
In all, with 4 Black Orcs in the team you have 7 potential players all with agi 3 who can receive the ball, with movement not counting go for its or skill ups, between 5 and 6 spaces. Even if you ditch the thrower for a drive, you have potential players who can blitz effectively, pick up, throw and catch the ball, without the need of a thrower.
Yes with skill ups, and lucky doubles you can turn any team into a successful bashy passing team, but I reckon he was refering to a standard 1,000,000 team, and not some fantasy team worth 1,700,000ish
Most teams in the game are bashy running teams, or they are run away passing team. There are very few bashy passing teams capable of being bashed and get back up again. Humans are a good bashy passing team, but they have low armour and prone to suffering more casualties and their flimsy players are expensive to replace, Orcs are more durable, and less likely to take significant casualties during a match.
Good starting Orc Team
4 Black Orcs 80k each total 320k
4 Blitzers 80k each total 320k
2 Linemen 50k each total 100k
1 Thrower 70k each total 70k
Team Total of 810k
accessorize with
3 rerolls at 60k each total 180k
1 Cheerleader (dont think the computer game lets you buy Assistant coaches) 10k each total 10k
Start with 0 fan factor, play the team right, that will change dramatically.
Summary of teams in my opinion (based on the living rulebook 5.0 board game, some teams might not make sense to seasoned Legendary Edition players)
Amazon, Run away and pass
Chaos, Bash and run
Chaos Dwarf, Bash and run
Dark Elf, Run away and run
Dwarf, Bash and run
Elf, Run away and pass
Goblin, Run away and run like hell
Halfling, Run away and run like hell, or Pass with a treeman (cos he won't eat a halfer)
High Elf, Run away and pass
Humans, Bash and Pass, but should be more Run away and Pass
Khemri, Bash only, at agi 2, for even throwers, this team struggles to pick it up, let along throw it any distance
Lizardman, Bash and run
Necromantic, Bash and run
Norse, fancies itself a Bash and run team, they should be more Run away and Run like hell team
Nurgle, Bash and run
Ogre, Bash and run (not sure they're in the legendary edition, unless its a DLC)
Orc, Bash and Pass/run
Skaven, Run away and pass
Undead, Bash and run
Vampire, Bash and run away from your own team or chase your own team.
Woodelf, Run away and Pass/run
I can definitely see Orcs being the best option for a Bash and Pass team
Tho I think I'll replace the 2 Linemen for Goblins
Mainly since they are faster and have access to Agility skills to make them optimal Catchers.
Not to mention start with Dodge and Stunty is a GOD TIER Dodging boost. Oh you're trying to block my touchdown by stacking a -2 Dodge on me? NOPE!
Oh no, St2 and Niggling effect.. Meh it's fine! Most Catchers are St2 anyways, and I've played with Lizardmen and their Skinks.
Thanks for the wealth of advice
As far as other races go that were mentioned
Necronmanic & Undead doesn't have direct access to Passing
Vampire... MIGHT work, but they are kinda of a struggle already...
Khemri... THROWRA YOU'RE A LIAR! A DIRTY DIRTY LIAR!
Chaos... Could work, using Mutations instead of more general skills? Be interesting
Amazon... I guess they could kinda of work, but they would be like mediocre at both bashing and passing
In my Orc team the Blitzers do the running/TD scoring, those are the players you should be focusing on getting TD points with, because any seasoned BB player will tell you, Orc Blitzers run the show, they are your go blitz the ball carrier guys, your fo fetch the ball guys, your take out their main player guys, they do everything for you, goblins, can only catch the ball and foul players, the lineman, is a good back up if a Blitzer cannot get to someone, least the lineman can hold someone up in a tackle zone for a turn, a goblin just gets pushed out the way without needing an assist, not that the AI thinks of that when it gangs up 4 assists when online 1 is needed...if any
Its your team, its your playstyle, if you've never played against real players, and only badly programmed AI, goblins will work, just don't think 100 games of this BS makes you a good player, you play an average boardgame player, they will trounce you
