Yes, you can emulate inputs on absolutely all games that have no use for precise analog inputs with theoretically every controller or usb adapter that supports your operating system.

Use JoyToKey to map controller buttons to keyboard buttons. I do it, and I fkn love it. Mostly because I played Sonic CD on Sonic Gems Collection for GCN with a GC controller (of course). But it feels really good.

Why would you want to? The SEGA Genesis was always meant to be played with an Atari joystick. You're not getting the real Sonic experience without one.

Absolutely not. Those were just the pack-in controller. To get the correct experience, you take a Commodore 64 or Atari joystick and plug it in. That's why the game has 3 buttons and they all do the same thing.

I always used Genesis controller on my commodore 64. That was the real experience. :)
