Is anyone else bothered by this?
I LOVE Sonic Mania, I truly love it. But if there's one thing that really bothers me, it's having to complete both acts again after an unfortunate goof-up in act 2, leading to a Game Over.

Especially Titanic Monarch. I'm curious how you feel about it.

It's bothersome, yes. Not as bothersome as continues were in Sonic 1 though :)

I'm not that great at pinball machine special stages, so I never had enough continues. I think I only legitimately finished Sonic 1 a single time in my life without using the level select cheat :P

the only real annoyance i have with mania is during chemical plant forgot if act 1 or 2 but there is a part with the pink goo rising and some platforming on the moving blocks. because nothing really stops you right before that segment, the placing of the blocks can instakill you before you even know what happened. also when landing on the bottom block (near the top of the segment) sonic can easily fit between the blocks but nope, the game wont have that crap and it kills you which makes no sense :/

I think I know what you mean. I fell for that too. I learned from that and made sure, it didn't happen a second time. Is pretty bothersome.

id say that the punishment being more severe than just restarting the level gives it an older gaming feel. i think they should keep it, but have it so that once you beat the game you dont have to play a zone from the start

Well think about it this way. Would you be complaining as much in Sonic 3 & Knuckles? It's the same thing in that game, but people enjoyed it regardless, so it didn't seem neccessary to change that.

Its the nature of the game, true to the original. In modern games there are no penaltys for death, but back in the 90s, death was something you were scared of. :) :) :)

Yeah. I always jump a little when I lose my last life to the horrible expierence oft having all of your bones slowly crushed under the pressure oft a Hufe block, that you could've never predicted because you were zoomin' through the stage at super sonic speed.

Also I should clarify that I do not intend, to let out my anger in the Forums, because I goofed up in a level. I just had this moment and was curious what others think of it.

Speaking of which: there's another thing that bothers me and that's the lack of New levels because the ones we have are freaking amazing! Especially Studiopolis.

When I played Sonic the hedgehog on megadrive years ago, a game over would mean a restart at green hill zone act 1. I got multiple game overs during the very last boss.
So, here's a simple answer :

I recommend reading everything, before posting a witty response. But yeah, I can relate to that pain. Which is probably why I haven't touched the classic games in a long time. Maybe I got spoiled by modern games.

Not really, the no save system back then was terrible.
But on Mania, it's really not that bad. A Game Over has to be a little punishing.

How is this even a problem? Simply... not being bad at the game is how you circumvent this. Which you do.. by playing it more. I wish game overs took you back a whole level instead of just act 1. Not as bad as starting from the beginning but enough to show you where you stand.

I never said it's a problem.
