Generic Gamepad Support?!
So I've got a USB adapter that allows me to use my Sega Saturn peripherals with my PC games and emulators by using a generic Direct Input USB hub. Is it seriously possible these guys didn't include support for GENERIC direct input?!

Does your controller work in Big Picture mode's menus? If so you should be able to enable controller configuration in the Big Picture controller settings. Make sure you select the "Sonic Mania (PS4 Controller)" config though, because the Steam Controller config one has problems with dpad settings for Xbox/DirectInput controllers.

Nope D-Input isn't in the game. Yeah I don't get it either.

No, it doesn't have an analog component (I'm using the standard 6 button Saturn pad), I've tried Big Picture, it doesn't work.

Yeah... This lack of D-Input is ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. Just gonna say.

Can't even use my official sega sls usb controllers(saturn style). And these aren't cheap either ($75-$150). These are undisputedly the best pc controllers for 2D games.

For what it's worth, I ended up just using the freeware app JoyToKey to map keyboard keys to my very-non-XInput Genesis controller (which shows up as a generic/DirectInput gamepad when connected to my USB adapter)

That said, I'm pretty surprised too, considering the devs are seemingly big Sonic fans who likely would have considered the use of original Sega controllers

Steam Big Picture mode shows support for Generic Gamepads. You should check that out once you have an idea of what's going on.

The guide for Mekazoo I linked to explains how to use that.

It has native Steam Controller support and XInput, nothing else.

This is adequate these days, however, because the Steam overlay can translate any DirectInput controller into the native steam controller API. It's a bit of a nuisance for third-party mod developers though. I had to develop special code for this game to get my overlay working using gamepads because of the way Steam's native stuff works :-\
