It advises disabling any start-up applications or services that could be causing a conflict with the game itself. Disabling Start Up and Services resolved my issues and I haven't had a crash since, but I was unable to identify what caused the problem in the first place. I systematically re-enabled all the services and start-ups as suggested but was unable to reproduce the problem to identify what caused it.

"Please try disabling any startup applications or services that could be causing a conflict with the game itself.
Using the Selective Startup option, you can turn services and startup programs on or off individually to see if the problem occurs the next time you restart your computer. If you select a check box, the service or startup program will run when you restart Windows. If the check box is cleared, the service or startup program will not run when you restart the computer. Please follow the steps below depending on which version of Windows you are running. Once complete, skip to the final step for identifying the root cause.
Windows 8 / 10:
1. From the Windows Start, search for msconfig.
2. Select System Configuration / msconfig.exe from the search results.
3. On the Services tab of the System Configuration dialog box, click to select the Hide all Microsoft services check box, then click Disable all.
4. On the Startup tab of the System Configuration dialog box, click Open Task Manager.
5. On the Startup tab in Task Manager, for each startup item, select the item then click Disable.
6. Close Task Manager.
7. On the Startup tab of the System Configuration dialog box, click OK, then restart the computer.
More detailed steps can be found here: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/929135
Identify the system service that is causing the problem:
a. Click the Services tab, click Disable all, select the check box for the first service that is listed then restart the computer. If the problem does not occur then you can eliminate the first service as the cause of the problem.
b. With the first service selected, select the second service check box, then restart the computer.
c. Repeat this process until you reproduce the problem. If you cannot reproduce the problem then you can eliminate system services as the cause of the problem. Perform the following task:
Identify the startup item that is causing the problem:
a. Click the General tab, and select the Load startup items check box.
b. Click the Startup tab, click Disable all, select the check box for the first startup item that is listed then restart the computer. If the problem does not occur then you can eliminate the first startup item as the cause of the problem.
c. With the first startup item selected, select the second startup item check box and restart the computer. Repeat this process until you reproduce the problem.

System Configuration is intended to find and isolate problems, but it is not meant as a startup management program.
To permanently remove or turn off programs or services that run at startup, please see the following link:

The crashes you are experiencing could be related to your driver.
Which GPU are you using AMD or Nvidia? We have had reports from some players who experienced crashes using up-to-date AMD drivers, they resolved this by rolling their driver back to a previous one.
Would you be able to try the following troubleshooting steps to see if we can fix these crashes >
- Verify the game's installation files, through the game launcher, to fix any corrupt or missing files that may be causing the crashes >
https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=2037-QEUH-3335
- Run all of the games .exe files as an administrator. Locate the .exe file, right-click on the file, select Properties, select the Compatability tab, select Run as administrator, select Apply then OK.
Not running as a game as Admin can cause several problems and can stop the game from being able to save > https://www.ubisoft.com/help?article=000060505
- Update your Nvidia or AMD GPU drivers to the latest update version available for your model of GPU. You can also try rolling back your GPU driver to a previous build, try a build released 6 month ago if you can.
-Make sure your Windows OS is fully updated, with now pending updates (Windows 11 not currently supported)
Updating Windows will also update any supporting software the game and launcher need
-Lower your graphic/video settings in-game so that you do not exceed your Vram limitations in the menu, running your Vram at max can cause your system to use your normal Ram and lead to crashes
- Disable all background software in Task Manager and try a clean boot/restart of your PC, in case any software is interfering with the game -
https://support.ubisoft.com/en-GB/Article/000063761
- Make sure the game is whitelisted as not a threat in your anti-virus software, in case it prevents the game from launching or connecting online
- Make a backup of the games config/settings file, then delete this file in case a recent change to the settings may be causing the game to crash (Changing the recommended graphics/video/monitor settings in the game, can sometimes prevent the game from launching)
- Install the game to another HDD or SSD drive preferably, if available. Also try installing the game on a separate hard drive as your Windows OS (Make sure to back up any game save files onto your desktop first, just in case)
- Temporarily use a hardware monitoring program with an onscreen overlay, to see if there is a sudden spike in your CPU or ram usage whilst playing, that causes the game to crash
- Do a System File Check (SFC) for any corrupted system files and a CHKDSK for any corrupted hard drives -
