There used to be an option to go offline but it has been removed since? dunno what's going on with ubi services lately...
The going "offline" upon Ubi' Con[ubisoftconnect.com] has been removed several months ago as they simply prevented my from changing that upon a *.yaml file that contained that option (and you had to make unwritten after changing it) but that was swiftly patched shortly afterwards.
And "what's going on with Ubi$oft's services lately" is that they're nearing bankrupcy[www.eurogamer.net], plain and simple.
And considering their latest decade of low caliber ethical standards regarding players/customer care handling, utterly atrocious 'so called' Ubi$oft's "Support" site[www.ubisoft.com] basically made to discourage customers from rightfully complaining about game bugs and similars, they self-inflated CEO Yves Guillermot and it's assorted administration are finally "reaping what they have been sowing" throughout all these years (pretty much since 2013 or so).
No wonder that Ubi$oft is hoping that their saving life plank atm is how well Assassin's Creed. Shadows will economically perform[gamefragger.com].
And they're clinging to that simple factor rather than also looking upon others that would further assist them into preventing their downfall like if they've made a game that would entice players to keep playing it, has a decent amount of quality and passion poored into it upon development, nigh bugs upon release and so on sort of usual metrics that the communities that used to love the Assassin's Creed saga / franchise would much prefer to see and get details about instead.
Definitelly not the constant PR (Public Relations) and Marketing (Mkt) actions being constantly shoved down our eye sockets throught their current bloatware piece of Ubi' Con's (pun purposedly and obviously picked) Game Launcher / Store of theirs when it even prevents me from even choosing the page in which I wanted it to open by default like it used to have around a year ago or so.
Nor having to insert my "Ubi$oft's Account" Password twice when starting a "Legacy" game of theirs and in the between of tboth hose Pass' insertions being also forced to perform a "2 Steps verification" when my PC hasn't changed nor it's location had for several weeks?
Ergo and in overall, thanks but no thanks to Ubi$oft's constant controling b**ls**t and trying to make their players/customer to play less to thus also complain less about those games that many times still contain decently big bugs still awaiting to be properly fixed/addressed.
Edit note: Correcting a type and also the above mentioned file type to the correct one (which was "settings.yaml").
But just keep "Retry" It will solved or you can wait for few minutes then "Retry"

Tbh, I can't wait for them to sink and eventually pass the AC's frnachise into some other more relieable and reputable game developing company / studio like for ex. Bethesda (and I'm not even mentioning Bioware because they simply aren't what they used to be too and stand for).
Unless you need cross play I'd just shut Cloud Saves off. I've had it off on my machine since early 2021 and have hardly any problems anymore. As long as you don't format your C: drive then your saves will stay on your computer even if you uninstall the game. Since I've turned off Cloud Saves I have seen at least a dozen people who have lost all their saves because of a glitch in the cloud. In fact the reason I turned off Cloud Save is because the second title update to Valhalla wiped out all my saves.
However I did have to turn on Cloud Saves temporarily in AC Shadows to get Achievements to work but once they did I turned it back off again without any problems
