Animus Hack. What's the point?

Exactly what does the animus hack option do? Has anyone played through a hacked version? I just finished my third new game plus run on nightmare setting and I want to know if the hacked setting is worth playing.

I think that the Animus Hack allows you to play with unlocked cheats that you've obtained during regular game play. And although I'm not 100% dead sure on my assumption (i.e., for ex. I never did it myself), I'm quite confident that even playing with those said cheats it'll stop your current game's progress until you deactivate all of those.
