You play as Bayek, a medjay (sort of a bodyguard/elite soldier of the pharao), who wants to avenge the murder of his son and tries to find all the people responible for his death.
This is one of the games that explains its story very well, so I would just start the game and play, everything will be explained to you along the way :>
The only thing that may be confusing is the modern day storyline, which is a small part of game play anyway. Basically it assumes you know the Animus technology allows someone to use DNA to experience the memories of that person. Abstergo is the global corporation that developed the Animus, and is secretly run by Templars, who desire power and control or the world through acquiring ancient artifacts of power left by the first civilization of advanced beings. The Order of Assassins (both past and present) fight against them, following ideals of protecting the innocent, and preserving freedom and choice over the Templar's goals of power, control, and order at all costs.
I guess the only thing you really need to understand is that the world you're playing in is supposed to be simulation. But that's about as far as I'd bother with trying to understand the background.
The great thing about Origins is that it lives up to its namesake. You don't need to know anything about assassins, templars, precursors, the first civilisation or whatever. There are no mentions of assassins and templars in this game because they don't exist yet. So my suggestion would be to not worry too much about any background and just enjoy the game as it is.
