Does it still have the stupid modern/future day stuff?
That always took me oput of the games, they're boring and dumb.

I hear you, I dislike the modern day storyline in all the AC games. It is still in AC origins, but it is so minimal and unintrusive I ended up liking it BUT I hope they keep it exactly like this in the next game.

It does have Modern Day scenes, however they take up like 30 minutes total of gameplay (except if you read all the things on the computer).

It does, but probably the least of any AC game. I'm not really even sure why they bothered with the modern stuff for Origins; the first couple of times you get pulled out of the animus, it's literally 3 minutes or less before you can hop right back in.

Also, the two modern characters suuuck. It's like the pulled them straight out of Mass Effect: Andromeda.

But really, if you liked the previous AC games, Origins is the biggest, the prettiest, and probably best playing. It's one of the worst written, but there's still a lot to like about this game.

Was probably less than 5 minutes in total in this game

Compared to Black Flag it's virtually non-existent. It's very unobtrusive with little impact on main quest.

As others have already mentioned above, there is modern day stuff. However, the team built the modern day to be minimal while still giving veterans a chance to read the lore. (reading the documents and such on the computer and papers)

So, if you're worried about too much modern day, do not worry. You can go through it relatively fast if you're not interested in it.

Thank you all.

please know this, as stated above, a lot of the veterans(most of the veterans) want the modern day back to its full glory, and not as an obligatory add-on. Many newer players dont know or simply dont care about it because it has become irrevant in recent years.

I would be interested in more present day stuff in the next game if it is done right and only if it adds value to the gameplay experience. I think AC origins did it just right, I ended up liking Layla, she came across as a strong female character and I was intrigued to learn more about her situation. I liked where she was based, which I wont say more on incase of spoilers.

But, to have more than that, it would have to add value to the story, and it would help if they stuck with Layla now for the next game.

Looking back, I think Black Flag did a really good job of it, but I never completed that game so I dont know if that went a bit sour after a while. If they combined more of Laylas story with more depth like the Black Flag present day, that would be cool.

Please don't listen to these people. The historic parts have always been the good about the games, the modern day was so bad I ended up actually quitting the game series. Or just make it optional for those of us who just want to play the interesting bits.

I actually really used to dislike the modern day stuff after Desmond died.. but with Layla, I actually was wanting more. The "nameless player stand-in" never really interested me at all.

The explore-at-your-own-pace, though, is great, I just wish there would have been more of Layla. I'm really interested to see where her plot arc goes, particularly with her new Animus technology.

Yes, but there's very little. Definitely the least of any AC game. I do get where you're coming from though, because I always found the historic parts to be far more interesting than the modern parts and always felt like the modern parts would drag on for too long. It's tolerable in this game though.

what veterans are you talking about? the modern day stuff was NEVER good or interesting. it's ALWAYS been bad. i always thought most veterans of the series were like myself and hated that stuff. the appeal of assassin's creed has always been exploring cool places and times in history. plenty of other games taking place in modern times if you're looking for that kind of stuff.

which game had modern day stuff you enjoyed and why/how did you enjoy it? not one of the assassin's creed games that i've played had good (let alone great) modern day sequences and i always felt that was intentional considering the fact that they've never been the focus.

^I've liked the modern day stuff since the first game, back when it was the main story line. Some games have done it better than others, but Origins in the first Assassin's Creed that really got the modern day stuff wrong.
Too short, badly written, not a lot of interesting background lore.
Machine Spirit Apr 21, 2018 @ 9:46pm
I think Origins was the first to get it right. The previous games have put me off the franchise because present day stuff felt bloated.

I've gone from failing to get engaged with the franchise to Origins becoming my favorite rpg, above Witcher 3. So Origins is doing a lot right imo and how they did the present day was part of that.
