Is there any difference in mount speeds?

I am 6 hours in the game and I was wondering if there's any difference between the mount I started the game with and the other mounts that are available for purchase from the merchants, or is it just cosmetic differences?
1500 drahmas is a lot of money for me at the moment but I would spend them if the mounts are faster than the default camel.

Thanks. I hijacked a chariot with 2 horses and it was quite faster, but I guess you can't own that. Fun while I had it.

From what I have read, there IS a difference in mount speeds. But if there is, I can't really tell. Horses do seem to have a faster top speed than camels, although some people say camels accelerate slightly faster than horses (so better for mounted combat). Whatever differences there are are not not that significant.

Yeah, that might be true. The horse does seem a bit faster. Can't tell if it's actually faster or it's just the different movement/animation though.
But I originally thought that there is a difference in speed between the common and the rare ones. The rare ones go for 1500, 5 times more expensive than the common ones, so it would be a total waste of money this early in my game. Good thing I remembered to ask here first lol.

Yes, there is a difference. There was a detailed thread about it a long time ago, not sure I can find it. I took inspiration from the study someone did on this game, and I did the same type of comparison in Odyssey to show the difference in speeds of walking, running, riding different mounts, and swimming (and boosting while swimming), and traveling with the eagle and boosting as well. I don't know if I could even find that one as well.

Btw I already bought a horse a few days ago, just prefer it over riding a camel anyways and it always feels faster, so this just confirms it.
