You have to tap interact button twice while crouching .

You can only pet the cats that are in a "sitting" position, and bayek will pet them automatically.

I'm sure the cats think you're great don't worry, it's the other animals in the game you should be worried about hating you! I've yet to see a friendly hippo or lion.

Try the tips the users above gave as if the cats are moving you can't pet them. You need to crouch up to them and he should do it automatically.

Well drat. I thought Ubi had left that feature out from the previous titles. I too tried to pet them and it didn't work, so I assumed it wasn't added. Now I gotta try again..

What about dogs?

It's just cats at the moment. Feedback was passed along regarding users wanting this for other animals too so we may see this in the future but no news to share at the moment.

Ok thx. I vote for pettable dogs as well, if it's still an option.

This entire process eluded me till I figured out how to light braziers.

Still doesnt happen. I go up to any non moving cat and crouch near them, in front of them, all angles, doesn't happen. Do I need to crouch first and then walk up to them?

Yay! Got it to work, first try(-ish).

This cat was just lying about in Leptopolis or whatever the town was called, and I approached him in a crouch. (Looks like puss is a victim of sand build-up from the sandstorms.)

Except for creeping up close to it, I didn't have to do anything else. Once Bayek's hand got close to it, the cat got up..
http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1237064545
..and proceeded to groom itself while Bayek petted him. Nice!

The first attempt was actually a bunch of me scooting about and pressing the action key repeatedly.. It wasn't until I walked up to it and just edged closer to it that the animation sequence started. Tried too hard, and once I let the game do its thing it worked fine.

Thank you for saving this cat from a sandy burial before it was too late.

Can you try the steps exactly as EbonHawk posted above and it should work for you.

Yes, glad to help. It gave me paws, I have to admit. It was the purrfect opportunity to be a good samaritan. Now I'm feline good about myself.

I swear there are some towns that I walk into and the cats flock to me like the pied piper, like maybe I've got sardines in my pocket or something. They're meowing and following me around closely. It's kinda cute. Somebody(s) in the Ubi dev teams must really love cats.

Oh yeah, duh. I completely forgot about that. Guardians of the gateways and safe passage to the underworld, and all that. Thanks for reminding me.

I realize I'm late to the party, but I'm confused. Why was this game mechanic phased out of Origins? Well, I have yet to play Unity or Syndicate so maybe it's gone from them as well. But in Black Flag, for instance, you could pet cats, dogs, cows, you could feed pigs and chickens. I'm sure i'm forgetting others. This is an enjoyable and humanizing aspect of that game that I really loved.
