my HDR settings for LG OLED TV
Hi,
here is some tips for lucky people using LG HDR oled tv to play AC:O

first , some intro , im 46 french oold gamer, computer scientist, working in hmi , cloudthingies etc. I invested in calibration hardware for my LG 55B6V oled tv and played about 6 months to find the best settings for movie watching given strength and weaknesses of the oled technology.

with some tweaking we could achieve a hdr like rendering without the hdr activation . Now that ubi activated HDR on PC, let's set up the TV and pc accordingly.

PC:
win 10 / latest version,
on your graphic card settings : set it to 4:2:2 YUV for 4K , 4:4:4 for 2K , LG tv does not support 4:4:4 in HDR 4K
gamma setting in win10 left as default.
win10 extended colors disabled (the game will set it for us)
unless you have a 1080ti , use 1080p resolution, the tv will extrapolate to 4K by its own cpu.
my conf : 6700K + amd RX480

for users with old 5.1 amplifier that does not support HDR passthrough, here is the workaround: connect the HDMI to the TV set directly. Problem: we cannot use 5.1 channels only stereo. So the trick is to use a second hdmi cable to your amp and set the audio output to this second "fake" monitor as 5.1 channels (or more if you have). Caution , win10 must be set as extended display and not as duplicate display, because in that last case it would apply the worst setting and will force your graphic card to 8bit colors. while in extended display, each screen will have its own config : so 10bit 4:2:2 YUV for TV and 8bit for the old amplifier.

ready to go ?

launch AC:O set it to HDR.
the OLED tv is recognizing the signal and must show you a nice HDR icon for 5 sec on top right.
now we have 4 settings available: HDR standard, HDR bright, HDR vivid, HDR game.

HDR game mode is optimized for latency, so this is the one to use , BUT , if you have low fps , lets say 30-50ies , you may prefer standard/bright one , since you can activated the frame smoothing algorithms, it s blurrier but make it really smooth , in particular if you force 30im/s , personnaly i set the refresh to 50im/s to have stable and quieter play. Moreover if you let the default 60Hz refresh setting, the HDR game mode locks (i don't know why) some advanced setting we want to change. While forcing 50Hz the HDR game mode advanced setting are unlocked.

HDR game mode TV settings
OLED 100 (max)
Contrast 95 ( max is burning whites)
Brightness 48 (normally it should be left to 50).
Color Temp W40 ( the good 6500K value is W50 at latitude 40, but we are in Egypt so W40 is more eye pleasing).
sharpness 15 (not more)
Color 44-46 (too much saturated with 65 as default, 40 is more photographic in green swamps)
tint 0

Advanced setting
dynamic contrast :off (low is burning white on stones by daylight)
dynamic color : off
Color : Extended (default value , for movie it must be set to normal)
extended resolution: low or medium (this is the interpolation algorithm on the 4K tv)
Image Options:
black level : low

in the game :
luminosity : 50
HDR setting : 1000 / 150

the black level seems not to be good , that s why i corrected it using the TV brightness to 48 in place of 50. We could use the game brightness to 40 , but i found this mess up the equilibrium between day and night in the game. If ubi could add a night darkness setting it would help so much.

and voila ( so french) , blinding moon /sun reflection on the water , blinding torch light ! with delicate black gradient, very accurate day colors on stones, paintings , wow effect , and the famous true black with oled ! If you want to share your own settings for other HDR tv sets , and discuss on my choices , you are welcomed.

And thanks ubi to make it .. at last :)

There are not yet any real HDR TV's monitors in de market. They are planned for realeas in 2018.

All current TV's claiming to be HDR are not. For HDR minimal 1000 nits is required. Current equiment only does 400 nits.

I agree, especially for oled , the max nit is lower than lcd , btw it is 560nits on oled tv , cf
http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/digitalfoundry-2017-lg-oled-b6-4k-tv-review. But the true black makes the trick in low light condition.

When i watch a hdr movie in a dark room this is already too much and hurting the eyes, so i lower the max value a bit . The needed improvement is for daylight viewing where lcd are better atm (above 1000nits already)

@Hibou

Thanks.
I do also have an LG HDR oled tv (E6).
Also have the recommended drivers, hardware (1080ti) and software (Win10).
But, for some reason, my TV does not show the HDR icon when I set the option on the AC menu, although the image quality does improve a bit.
Would you have a guess what must be happening?
Thanks a lot for your post and for your help.

Hi Erico,
check thet you have set your graphics card in 10 bits 4:4:4 Yuv output, and connect it directly to the TV. On the LG paramaters /display , you can check also that the mode is set to HDR standard or HDR game. If you select "info" button on the lg remote , you should see BT2020 as the color range.

in the LG general panel you have also to verify that hdmi input accept deep color, the name of the menu is GEneral > HDMI ultra HD deep color . You have to restart the tv after changing this setting.

Thanks.
My NVIDIA Control Panel was set to RGB 4:4:4.
Changed to 4:2:2 YUV and voila (so french lol)
Thanks again.

Nice guide, I'm sure it helps people out a lot if they aren't familiar with YUV settings etc. For B7V though, it's not that good, it seems the tech in the newer panel differ more than I thought.
Thanks anyway!
/Cheers

Nimgor , if you can share your setting to compare, one thing also to note is that the gamma setting in windows is the default one , no tuning.

updated dynamic contrast to off after seeing some problems in daylight. that s curious because for movies HDR , dynamic contrast to low is the setting to use.

Your TV does support 4:4:4 in HDR 4K. How ever due to bandwitdh limitation on the HDMI cable atm it will only support 4:4:4 at 30hz in HDR.

MSI Afterburner must be OFF or the entire HDR picture is ruined for me.
Took me quite a while to figure out!
Windows 10, GTX980ti, LG Oled 55 B7V
Ingame HDR settings 1000/150, graphics maxed out at 1080P, brightness at default 50.
TV settings is pretty standard for HDR but I have contrast at 75 and all settings that can be turned off, -off

Mate, i need youre help please!

I have a 55B7D OLED and a 1080 Ti so playin in 4k

If i enable your Settings HDR works, but: colors went greenish and the light of the sky is flashing my eyes, all lightinig is much to bright :(

I dont know what is wrong, if used almost the same settings as you... dont have any trouble with ME:A, CoC WWII or Resi 7, all these games deliver a perfect HDR.

But AC:O hurt my eyes to much... do have any suggestions what could be wrong?

EDIT:

Strange...and one more time i hate HDR and Win10 ....they totaly borked that!

I ve set desktop to 1080p 60Hz

Started AC:O set it to 1080p 60Hz with HDR which also kicked in.. now i ve got a real HDR Picture! Yea \o/

Now i ve changed ingame 4k 60Hz HDR and it is still working!!! If i change back destop to 4k and game to 4k, HDR is broken.. holy crap!!!

EDIT 2:

it becomes more strange but might help others:

what caused this issue?

I have also two devices connected to my nvidia Card:

- one for picture direct to TV
- one for Audio just to AV

But:

HDMI 1 to TV: 2160p
HDMI 2 to AV: 1080p

After i set also the HDMI 2 to my AV to 2160p, the issue with over brightness was gone :)

I cant understand that and i am confused due to other games did not have any problem with this setup and sending correct HDR.

el3c: In Taskmanager: Turn off all RTSS, MSI Afterburner and programs like it that uses an overlay on the game that shows fps or other statistics. Probably a good idea to turn off Steams and UBI's overlays too.
Then start your game up.
Worked for me, I had the same problem as you.
Let us know if it worked :)
