I am confused with the story (beginning) please help

Hello,

Just started this game and I am very confused. I understand I am playing as Bayek. So I got to level 5 and did the next main mission, where there is the cut scene of Khemu and Bayek. Bayek in this cut scene is bald, they went in the temple etc. and his son Khemu died.
I thought this was the same Bayek as I am playing as now, just a year prior (so his son died a year ago). However at the end of this cut scene, the character I am playing now with the hair, talks to the bald guy that looks to be from the cut scene. So is Bayek talking to his past self? I am sooo confused... and I tried googling it but there is nothing.
If not who am I playing as? And who was the bald guy in the cut scene who's son Khemu died?

You are talking about The False Oracle mission cutscene where Bayek beats the **** out of Medunamun (The Ibis) and then is back at the village talking, right? Then the person Bayek is talking to tells you to come see him when you are ready to leave Siwa.

You may be confusing the past Bayek with Hepzefa (his friend, the guy that takes you from the tomb back to the city Siwa at the beginning, whom Bayek is talking to in this cutscene). Hepzefa has a shaved head and kind of looks similar to past Bayek.

In the flashback Bayek is a medjay, like a village policeman, and his companion Hepzefa is as well. They have similar hairstyles and clothing. After his son's death Bayek goes rogue and gets a little shaggy.

Later in the game you'll have the option to shave his beard and cut his hair again.
