Feeling the same.. don't really understand what's going on.

Its my 1st AC game, no idea what the crack is & struggling with the controls and gameplay. Pretty underwhelmed but hope it becomes engaging....

this is probably the worse game to be starting with if its your first AC game lol id suggest reading up on the previous games so you get an understanding of the game universe :)

regarding the controls: are you using keyboard + mouse or are you using a controller? If a controller, which one? Oh, and you can go into options off the main menu (start, left on the pad, Options, right to controls) to see what the controller or keyboard settings do. There's also button prompts on screen for most things, outside of combat or standard exploration.

Keyboard and mouse.

I find the movement really odd.. and unintuitive. Combat is a mess for me... i mean how do you move backwards without turning around and just showing your back!

The intro and such for this is crap, its not engaging.

I know how you feel, the Storytelling style can be confusing. When I started this game I felt exactly like you did, I spent the first few hours wondering who I was, why I was doing the things I was doing and why I should care. As the story goes on, little piece of the character history will be shown through flashbacks.

Honestly I am not a fan of this style because they force you to play through the fart chapter of the game without having any attachment to the characters, this makes it really hard to get into the story.

yeah i managed to get past the first chapter and get a bit of an understanding at to what is going on, but the whole stroy line after AC 4 is a mess, had to watch a re cap video to get my head around the story

It certainly isnt a series that lends itself to new players. They game does nothing to ease you in, you are expected to just know what is going on and roll with it. but considering this is like the 9th game in the series, they are asking a lot of new players. And forget the modern day story. there is absolutely no explanation to what is going on there. you just have to know and if you dont know then too bad apparently.
