Game starts from C drive only
Hello there,

My game seems to only be able to boot up from the C drive, when I put it on the other drives (my actual hard drives, not SSD) the game just doesn't boot up. I dont get an error message or anything, the game shows up in Task Manager and after a few seconds it just goes away.

I do get a little splash screen before the game terminates itself, when I put the game on my C drive there's no problem whatsoever.

Does anyone have a fix for me?

I assume you bought the game from steam? Make sure the game path matches with Ubisoft launcher as well.

I always seem to have that problem with Uplay, this is what fixes it for me.

Set the game to run as administrator.
Create a desktop shortcut for the game directly from the game folder.
Run game from shortcut.

I run win7 so ymmv. Good luck.
I got the problem when installing on a different drive, it wont start. And here is a workaround for it: https://gist.github.com/fredwangwang/679a6e6f7a4d66f4502b66d6d6dc5ca8

I did experience the same issue at first with Valhalla, but at least I was able to solve that at that time. I sometimes come back to this game after months, so I need to reinstall it. Everytime it goes on my C, because well, otherwise it just won't work.

You are self responsible for choosing install drive Not Steam or Ubisoft

You can set different install folders by going to settings> downloads> steam library folders, and setting up your install directories there.

Also to note. If trying to use another drive that is encrypted Origins wont launch. Such as a windows storage space drive.

The problem is that this game is known to not be able to boot when on any other drive than your C drive. So for people who don't have a lot of space left on their OS drive, they might not be able to run the game at all.

I believe that is the case if say ubisoft launcher is on a different drive. Try to install launcher and game on same hard drive. So they both are not on C:\. See if that helps, but I get how this could be an issue for some.

It could also be a registry issue as well. Before you change the launchers install path you may need to clean out the registry after it has been uninstalled. Than when clean. Install the launcher again on the other drive. Which could be a real pain and timely to do, but may help. Or not at all. I never tried but just a thought on what would cause that.

Hey everyone!

Sorry to hear you're having issues launching Assassin's Creed Origins from drives other than C.

We recommend ensuring Ubisoft Connect, Steam, and the game are all on the same drive for optimal performance. Additionally, please ensure that your drive is not a Microsoft Storage Space Device or a USB external drive.

I'd also recommend clearing the Ubisoft Connect cache[www.ubisoft.com] if you move/reinstall the game to a different drive.

Finally, we also have some handy steps in our PC troubleshooting guide[www.ubisoft.com] that may assist.

Let me know how you all get on with the above!

Good to see that after 4 years Ubisoft can actually be helpful ;)

They may have generic responses more times than not, but you have to give them credit. They still try to help out as much as they can. Even if the game/s are no longer supported. So its nice to see.

They at least try to guide you in the right direction. Other game forums and no publisher/developer try to help you at all.

It definitely could be worse, and of course their customer service responds a lot quicker than this. I had some issues with my account which they solved quite quick, their responses were daily. So yeah, please take my comment as I meant it, with a grain of salt.
