Nightmare elephants
Got any advice? Not really sure how to go about it, pretty much as decked out as possible but 1 hit is about half my health and they seem to have an absurd amount, I don't even want to think about the fight where there are two of them I've heard about.

use health on hit weapons/bows to quickly get back some health.

not impossible to do. defeated them in 3rd attempt on nightmare difficulty.try to dodge and attack and use smoke balls. Also use health on hit melee weapons and health on hit bow.

I looked it up and there isn't a fight with two of them, that I think would be impossible. I didn't think of using the smoke bombs, I'll give it a try

I keep forgetting smoke in the heat of battles. My issue isn't the elephants, but those annoying archers riding on top when the elephant backs away and they start that flaming arrow ♥♥♥♥.

Here's my personal recommendation on what to do when standing before one of the elephants on Nightmare difficulty.

For real though, I would take some health on hit weapons as others have recommended and just take your time. Try not to feel rushed and just think about your hits strategically.

I was so paranoid after hearing about the elephants, but some good advice I got was to pay attention to where your shots do the most damage. If you keep moving, there's almost always time to put yourself at a distance to avoid the archers or get in a few good shots.

Elephants have weak spots on their trunks, underbelly, and backsides.
If you wait for them to rear up, the belly shots are easy. If you dodge a running charge, let the arrows fly into the animal's butt before it turns around.

If you time a fully charged sword attack when either of these happen, you can take off large chunks of the enemy health bar.

The best advice I got was for the double trouble elephants. Keep in mind that when one of them dies, the other will go completely beserk, making it very hard to hit, let alone kill. The less stressful tactic is to whittle away at each one until they're both nearly dead and then finish them both quickly.

Never try and use melee on an Elephant unless you have your power charged up. Always use bows. About dodging, try and do it a bit before or right when the elephant is about to hit you.

The Composite Bow (light bow with health on hit) is a godsend in elephant battles.

Stay at range, shield block when the archers shoot at you, move when they throw bombs at you, and keep shooting at the legs of the elephants (which isn't a weak spot, but an unarmored and easy target to hit with a lot of arrows). I like to equip a sword and save my overpower for when I screw up and an elephant gets too close to dodge, since you are invincible during the overpower animation and can deal some nice damage, too.
