Reasons Origins is better than Odyssey?
I don't own Odyssey but I'm having trouble starting into Origins now that I hear Odyssey improves on supposedly everything. I'd love to hear reasons why Origins is better.

nah for me origins is the betetr game, betetr story, betetr scenery.
in odyssey the world is way bigger, and you get a lot of cut and paste stuff, also other things, like chickens that can go mad...but otehr ppl will have dieffernt opinions.
both are great games , but the masterpiece is origins for me.

Odysey is beautiful game, but for the gameplay i think i prefer the origins. in odysey there is some features that make the game feels like not realistic, its not bad but idk about other ppl thinking for me it is just weird. that why i think origins is the way better, becos its more realistic than odysey

Played both. 20 hours Origins and over 80 hours Odyssey.
Origins have superior environment, tombs, cities. There is more athmosphere to environments, it feels more real and authentic. Cooler looking hero costumes as they are one pieces, not individiual parts of different gear as in Odyssey. It has more feel of the older AC games, but as well have the same clunkiness.

Gameplay wise Odyssey is a more polished game which feels more like a AAA experience. Controls are smooth, there many small improvements in UI, animations, quests. Check "Is it worth it thread?", I've made a list of improvements that I've noticed, but list is definitely not complete. There are more points as to why Origins is better, but imho you can enjoy Odyssey minute to minute gameplay longer.

I recommend playing both, you can complete Origins in about 40 hours or less and Odyssey might take twice as much.

Both good, but what Viik said

For me origins is way better than odyssey mostly because the superior graphic, color combination, setting, simple gameplay and animation and the appreciation of little detail.

I don't like odyssey mostly because the animation, characters, and bad voice acting. To see the way the character's animation move/run in odyssey is painfull for me (weird goofy awkward animation). And there's some combo animation that feels weird, unnecessary, exaggerated and unrealistic.

The voice acting is really meh, the character is uninteresting & forgettable. Most of people said the gameplay is improved but for me improved is not always to be good or positive, Ubisoft Quebec overdone it just to make it weird.

The only thing i like from odyssey is just less fall damage and maybe the spartan kick, that's it.

When people say "Origins setting is better", they mean this.

I prefer Origins too, , Bayek as a character is better than the misthios from Odyssey, he's more complex and the relationship with Aya is more believable than anything in Odyssey. Also it's easier to progress in Origins, Odyssey requires too much grinding, and unless you have nothing to do in life, it seriously does get boring very quickly. Sure the map in Odyssey is big, but there's so little variety, it's basically just filler to make the game longer, it's not anywhere near as interesting as GTA 5 for example where you can discover all sorts of interesting things when you roam around.

- Better writing
- Better characters and villains
- One of the best protagonists in the AC series
- No over the top superhuman magic abilities
- Better combat system
- Incredible DLCs (specially the curse of the pharaohs)
- it's more lore friendly to the AC basis
- Its setting is astonishing
- less game breaking bugs

The confessional scenes automatically make the villains better in Origins, IMO. They're so cinematic and pretty much tells you their nature and personality through visual alone. I know that making confessional scenes in the white (black?) room of the Animus isn't really possible with the amount of cultists there are in Odyssey, but this is just another point to "Quality over Quantity."

I heard that Odyssey is more of a grind. Is that true?

grind is only in ppl's mind, but there are quite a few simplistic missions

Simply not true, this thread explains why:

Depends if you enjoy the world or not. I don't really like Ancient Greece as a setting. It's too clean and too bright for me at times. I prefer the somber and rustic feel of Ptolemic Egypt. It also doesn't help that Odyssey has too many question marks around the map that are practically the same. I once found a Spartan camp just a few hundred meters off an Athens camp. They're both like, just over the hill. Side activities are fine, but once they're repeated over and over again, it gets grinding. Odyssey may have more varied tasks in its side quests, but Origins, I feel has much more feel to the context of its side quests.

I once found a grieving widow in Origins while traveling, and it only had two main objectives: Stay and listen to her plights, and then bring her a heron feather to comfort her. It's basically a glorified fetch quest, but the context of the quest and how it connects to Bayek's own plight gives the quest so much more meaning than Kassandra/Alexios' quest for more money.
