Jumping up to a ledge?

So before all the "AC has never had jumping!!1" comments, I'm aware, but even AC1 had the ability to jump from a standing position to a ledge above you.

In this one, for example, I don't seem to be able to jump onto that ledge from the stairs, instead you just walk down the stairs.

Here I should be able to jump up onto the wooden bar above me, but I cannot.

And as we can see it is indeed a surface I can stand on, I just can't seem to jump up to it from below

So am I missing someting here? Or did Origins actually take away an ability that's been around since AC1?

Besides that not really many complaints about the game, and I was about ready to boycott the entire series after 3 and Unity. But this oversight is kind of irking me and I'm really hoping that I'm just missing something really obvious.

There are no longer a high profile /low profile modes. This makes the game much better in my opinion. If you want to jump up to something just hit the jump button. If you want to stealth..hit the crouch button. Personnly I hated that about AC games. Running around like a deranged monkey jumping on everything in site in high profile mode.

My problem is not the streamlined approach, which I agree is better MOST of the time, but in this case I cannot as you say "just hit the jump button" to jump up onto things. I showed this in the images I linked. I can't jump from the ledge in the 2nd picture to the wooden beam in the 3rd picture, I had to climb up from an entirely different area to get there. I also was unable to jump up to the ledge in the 1st picture, I had to climb up the building it was attached to and then drop onto it. This is the opposite of being streamlined, unfortunately.

What I'm trying to ask is if there IS a way to jump to the ledge in the first picture, or from my position in picture 2 to the one in picture 3 by simply jumping up to it, without climbing one of the vertical posts.

In short, it seems like you cannot jump up onto a ledge unless there is a wall to climb, so a "floating" ledge, like the one in the first picture, is impossible to climb onto.
