There are many sidequest which really didn't help building the character. it was disappointing for me .
Revenge for his child...into forming the Brotherhood.
Political games, creating of the brotherhood are loosely tied together , which makes no sense in the end.
There are lot of flaws in the story, for example a guy (i forgot his name) who tried to kill caesar becomes his bodyguard the nextday and cleo didn't mind working with guys who tried to kill her.
The game did not show any reasonings for this plot twist and all the antagonist got was a few lines before the death( VERY POOR build up of the order). It was so messy towards the end till it didn't made any sense at all.
at last bayek and aaya forms a brotherhood with about 3 or 4 peoples, thinking they can't trust anyone and for the greater good...i don't even know how to describe that scene.that was hilarious.
I think the game is made to enjoy the world which is AWESOME and the side activities.
What people like in stories usually involve character devlopment and emotional bonds. Look at Uncharted games for example. The stories are as basic as they go, a carbon copy of old Indiana Jones movies. But you just get 2 or 3 good characters and 1 or 2 vilains and everything revolves around that. Bioshock infinite is about a handful of recurring characters all along the story. The Last of Us is a story of the bond between 2 characters.
In comparison ACO is really messy and feels like a lonely quest outside of the sequences where one recurring character (Aya) sometimes participates. On top of it there are really little revelations and is mostly successive assassination targets. I started to care for example for the Krokodile mission but then its over and theses characters are forgotten.
For the part where Ceasar is working with people who tried to kill him previously, I think it's because of the apple that the Lion has. Maybe he manipulated Ceasar and made him a tyrant hungry for power. The plot is OK, but nothing too new or plot-twisting. Overall the build up of the brotherhood didn't give me that sense of grand importance... it's like Bayek suddenly decided to establish the bureau, and there he goes. I understand that he and Aya felt betrayed by Ceasar and Cleopatra, and thus wanted to protect the people by themselves... but it just didn't felt like something big enough to initiate the whole brotherhood that became what we know of today...
But well, it's a historical memory, and we can't have stories that are too magical and super-natural I think, which is why we get DLCs that makes up for the magical part XD Let's go kill some zombies and monsters in Ancient Egypt lol
Btw, the only character that I ever got emotionally attached and involved, as of games, is 2B in NieR: Automata. Probably because the whole story mainly revolved around her and a few other androids. Man it was such a beautiful yet sad game. The story was so good.
