What is the point of having huge empty regions with nothing in them?
As you progress through the game, from lentopolis, to giza, to memphis, and then the fayium and krokodilopolis, a large section of the map to the left and a few regions to the bottom were left unexplored. I thought maybe the game would eventually take me there, but I am at the end of the game (I think), where I get a prompt that continuing on the mission to Alexandria is final or something. I saw that prompt and started a new character and got to that point again, and decided to go exploring around. Those huge areas I had been hoping to explore later seem to be absolutely empty. The Black desert region for instance has 2 tombs right next to each other, connected to each other really. But nothing else. Its a vast region with an interesting appearance, but it seems absolutely wasted. No bandits, barely any enemies, nothing. Same with two other regions, and a couple others just have one or two question marks... Somewhat of a letdown, but I don't get why they even bothered having those regions there. Is there more to the story past that point I am at?

Those will very most likely be filled with DLC and such. They wouldn't just put a numerous regions in the game just for exploration without missions.

Im really hoping they open the SDK to modders at one point (maybe a 1 year delay until public access to the SDK).

Allowing mods for the gem of a game would be awesome!! We'd be able to fill up those empty spaces in no time with lots of goodies.

Ubisoft don't support modding.

I spent some time doing a fly around with Senu over those empty areas and I found, I think in the White Desert but don't remember exactly, a huge structure set into the sand, like a vast stone lined trench. As soon as I saw it I thought "Boss battle arena" and expected to get sent there on a quest, but I've finished the main missions and nothing.

I think you are talking about the Desheret Desert at the bottom of the map. And no there is no boss battle over there, but has something waaaay more interesting.

As you wish. Its not connected to the main story, but to the overall story of the franchise.

Is the mission where you go to Alexandria with Cleopatra and get a prompt asking if you are sure the last one? I have been avoiding that mission despite getting there twice and almost there on my third character. I don't want to end the main story, as that will make me lose interest in the game instantly. But I really want to play that mission lol.

The last mission takes place in Rome and you will know when you are about to start it.

What's the point? Just trying to create a sense of realism and a more consistent world building I guess. There has to be some regions that are just desert and nothing else.

There is no region completely empty. Not a single one. There are things to do and lots of things to explore. Some have more, some less but none of it would be marked on the map. You would have to actually explore the map to find out.

Great Sand Sea and White Desert are literally empty (no side activities or even enemies). A few other locations (Black Desert, Desheret Desert) have only one or two things to do.

There are some unique hallucinations in sand sea. I say unique bcoz i roam the desert all the time yet the illusions in sand sea were unique. It might have been just me, but sand sea being bordering siwa, i was getting some siwa specific hallucinations as well. I cant confirm if all these are exclusive to Sand Sea or do they happen elsewhere as well. I never found the anywhere else. It also has some nomadic bandits who set up camp in the sand once in a while.

White desert is kinda empty yes.

Black Desert isnt empty though. It still has the enemy convoys and bandits camps all around.

Desheret Desert is the only one which has literally nothing to do other the one location.

I think only the north seas have nothing worthwhile to do.
