How do I drop the torch on the ground?

I am using a PS4 controller

I think it's either, press right on the D-pad or press and hold it.

On the xbox controller it's the right trigger to drop it.

I play on PC, but this was a problem during my early gameplay. For the first 1/3 of the game, I thought the only way to remove a torch was by throwing it. I remember being on the crow's nest platform of a ship trying to light my arrows but every time I threw the torch to my feet, the momentum would have it roll off and fall to the deck below. It was so frustrating because I remeber dropping it via a prompt during the game's intro but I hadn't found a need for it since then. After changing some controls I finally found it, and then of course I find a bow with fire arrows about 2 levels later.
