Is it needed to play previous AC titles to play this one?
I'm in love with this game buti don't know if it would be reccomendable to play this one without having played the previous titles as AC (1,2,3), Brotherhood, Revelations, Blackflag, Rogue, Unity and Syndicate.
Thanks

It will help with the over-arching storyline a bit, but no it's not necessary. They are all pretty good though, some more than others. It's worth it to play them to understand what's going on and have the experience, as each one is different.

it holds up pretty well on it's own (having played only the first entries in the series up to revelations and black flag). i would recommond black flag and one of either 2, brotherhood or revelations. BF is prolly the best priate shhip battle game you will play. and one of the games with ezio will give you the essential assassisn creed experience, they are dirt cheap in sales aswell.

It really doesn't matter as far as this game goes, it is a very different game then the other AC games. If however you decide that you want to play the other games then I WOULD reccomend you start with the first game and work your way through them.

Personally, the AC series has been my favorite games, Unity may be the one exception I REALLY didn't like it. 2 was by far my favorite out of all of the games it had and incredible story and fantastic game play.

The biggest problem you're going to have if you start with Origins and like it so much you want to go back and play the old ones, is that Origins plays completely different than any other AC in the series. It's an RPG, every other AC game is an Action game.

It really is not a problem, because the ruleset will change anyway, no matter which end you would start at, either working your way from AC1 to ACO or going backwards from ACO to AC1.

For the OP, I was really tempted to get just the new game, because it’s beautiful, but I am glad that I have started from square one with Altair.

I don’t think it’s a big deal to play them out of sequence, but I think if you have any interest at all in the previous games, trying them out before purchasing a Origins is a good idea (and one hell of a good deal when they are on sale)

Then, again, I am pretty much planning to spend the rest of 2017 and 2018 playing through the full AC franchise and I am not averse to delayed gratification ....

backstory helps with understand some of the more... syfy elements of the late game but most of it can be wiki'd so no it isn't neccessary at all. The older games are pretty good though if you find yourself intrigued

I wouldn't go back and play all the old ones I hadn't already. Even if you can get past the dated graphics on the earlier titles you will probably come to despise the entire franchise and anything connected with it if you try to play them back to back.

Jump in with the newest is my recommendation.

Hmm, just played AC1, and almost finished AC2. Don’t feel the graphics is dated, actually AC1 felt more fresh than the second. Can’t say I hate the franchise, more like growing obsessive over it.

But, I am throwing in games with choices and my character being my own in between, otherwise I would get tired, I think.

I don’t know how far I will get, but saying Basta! I am buying Origins! Is pretty much always an option, so... nothing to lose, really.

They are pretty cool games.

The gameplay itself, no.

The random "Modern Day" parts of the game you'll probably be confused on

Assassin's Creed Origins was designed to be able to be played without playing the previous titles. However, if you played them it would just help you understand the timeline of the series and give you some lore knowledge.

I always forget how subjective everything is lol. I should have said for me, I think going from the newest most refined game backwards almost always tends to be frustrating. Because something that they made better in this game, more intuitive, won't be there in the past games. And for me those things tend to stick out like a sore thumb.

Take for instance climbing in the original AC1. I started with AC1, loved it to death, climbing some of the REALLY high buildings that take like 5 minutes to climb were literally part of what got me hooked on the series. Breathtaking views at the top and the like.

Then AC2 pops in and makes it so the run button works while climbing, making it just a bit quicker, and it just works better from a gameplay mechanic standpoint. When I decided to go back and replay the series from AC1 the super slow climbing REALLY stood out to me, as well as some combat mechanics that have since been refined. But these are things that were perfectly fine when I played it the first time, because there was nothing to compare it to.

But then fast forward to now and climb speed in these newer games is just ridiculously immersion-breaking fast, and you don't even need to press a run button, hell there IS NO run button anymore. He goes one speed now. Each protagonist from AC3 and on must hold world records in climb speed if it's even physically possible for a human to climb that fast for that long. At least in Revelations there's a tool they give you to make climbing faster, which was amazing. Everyone loved the hook blade and we don't see it again in another game.

Gotta make the games more accessible, god forbid anyone has to wait a little longer for anything.

That's a fine plan, hope you enjoy. Look forward to Black Flag!

Heh, my 2017 looked like...

Inquisition, Andromeda, Jade Empire, Prey, Tyranny, AC1, Technomancer, AC2...

So, nope, I did not even notice the climb speed, and tbh, I liked that AC1 was stripped of bloat and pointless boring busy work stuff AC2 has in droves.... and so does Origins by the sound of it.

Ya those types of things I guess can be trivial as well, may irritate some more than others haha. But it's not something you'll really encounter unless you start with a brand new AC and then decide to go back and play AC1. Then it will be glaring, lol.

If you decide to go down the rabbit hole... don't forget to watch the movie
Origins has references to its events
