Is the "present" day storyline still a thing?

I'm not sure if they've ditched the ♥♥♥♥-tier storytelling they've had going in the first few games or not (seeing as how I've not played them past... I don't even know which one at this point honestly, they've made so many.) But are there still the "present day" sections of the game? Where you're ripped from the action and forced to do something in the current timeline or whatever? The animus machine stuff, etc.

100% hate those story sections and literally do not give a ♥♥♥♥ about the world building that they're trying to setup through it. Just curious. That will determine if I buy the game or not, thanks!

Only present day story I cared about was killed off with Desmond... now I get the shock that the animus person in this is some random woman I don't care about -_- would of personally prefered it if they just left the present day parts out (I don't like being forced to play female characters... but at least it's not the entire game)

I haven't encountered modern day plot yet (turned off the game right before departure to Alexandria) but I hope I won't miss many connections to Rogue / Syndicate as I had no time to play them yet - couldn't resist Origins but meh, not proud of myself lol

There is a modern day story, but so far I havent played much of it. Just from reading the womans emails and computer stuff though she is kind of a self-centered ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ to everyone else.
