To Webroot Antivirus users with startup crash - Fixed
Issue is fixed.

Also, I received in my Webroot support ticket the following message:

Hi Kenneth,

So we got confirmation internally that there was some whitelisting performed which myself and others were not immediately aware of. After talking to the proper teams internally it appears that's what had been done. This process does not require any additional code changes to be pushed out, which is why there wasn't necessarily any "updates" performed on your end that I could attribute the fix to. Now that this has been identified, we're working to try and prevent similar issues in the future.

Looks like they pushed an update through their cloud thing a day ago to fix it.

Can confirm this as well. Received email from Webroot Support asking to launch the game to see if issue was still happening. Launched multiple times without issues. I did not have to reinstall Webroot either.

If you really need to play the game now, you will need to uninstall Webroot.

Otherwise, they are working on the fix now so it should come in due time. Wait for the Webroot Antivirus to have an update.

If you uninstall Webroot, make sure you don't do anything that can compromise your system while your have it uninstalled like the above mentioned.

Of course, if you are aware of people targeting your systems for data or something critical then don't uninstall it. Wait for the update.

So, quick update on this:

Webroot is working with Denuvo to fix this now.

They have narrowed it down to their sky client thing which is supposedly foreign code prevention (sorry I am not IT trained) and cannot be disabled from the app menu.

For some reason, Denuvo is taking that as an attempt to crack the game's anti-piracy prevention measures.

So, they have now contacted Denuvo and are working with them to solve this.

Apparently, they managed to replicate the same issue in the latest Tomb Raider as well as one other game.

They just collected 2 x 2.6 gb crash dump (don't ask me why it's so huge) from my com and will update me next week when they figure out what is causing the conflict.

So, guess we just need to wait this out a little more.

"Thank you for the additional information, we've been able to reproduce the issue internally, and are working with our Development team towards a resolution. This fix will be issued via an agent update at some point in the future.
With that said, the issue does appear to be isolated to titles that leverage Denuvo version 5. Other games, shouldn't encounter the issue.

I believe someone else in another thread also got a similar message in his support ticket so just sit tight if you have Webroot Antivirus installed.

If you don't, please uninstall your mods or any third party files cleanly and it might solve the issue.

Good luck!

Edit:

Webroot is now working with Denuvo to resolve this.

Suspected culprit is the Sky Client from Webroot. You cannot disable this. It runs in the background.

They just collected the crash dumps from my com for analysis.

They will be updating me next Monday/Tuesday in my support ticket.
Awesome! i hope they fix this issue. Let us know when you hear back from them? I tried the registry key changes and it worked once out of nowhere and then didnt? Someone mentioned that its not a webroot thing because webroot didnt update prior to fatalis update at all.

Yeah, I will update this thread when they give me a reply.

I checked my support ticket earlier today and they still haven't given me a reply.

So, I asked them for updates in the support ticket.

Hopefully, they will have something for me tomorrow since it is already Wednesday 00:23 now in my time.

Until they fix this, i'm going to crack the game and play it. Denuvo is completely pointless, and i'm honestly confused as to why capcom still even has it. Denuvo is intrusive garbage that hurts a consumer's experience, and can't even protect the game from cracking.

Hi Kenneth,

The information you provided was most certainly useful. Our development team is currently investigating these reports further in the hopes of getting an update released to address it, and so any and all data we can collect is beneficial. We have identified that these issues are the result of a recent change made to our Foreign Code Shield, but I believe the exact issue is still being investigated internally. As such, we don't yet have an ETA to provide on when a fix will be made available in a future update, but rest assured that it is one of our top priorities and it is scheduled to be included in the next patch for this particular shield.

As a temporary solution, you can uninstall and reinstall the Webroot program, making sure to reinstall using the link included below.

** Note: Once this issue is fixed in a future build, it will be necessary to uninstall and reinstall Webroot once more to receive future updates.

* * Part 1: Uninstall * *

For Windows 10:
In the Cortana search bar, type "appwiz.cpl" (without quotes), and press Enter on your keyboard.
Scroll down the programs list until you see the Webroot security product.
Click the Webroot security product entry once to select it, then click "Uninstall/Remove."
When asked if you are sure you want to uninstall, click "Yes" and follow any prompts that appear.

2. Restart your computer.

3. Click the Windows Start button.

4. In the Cortana search bar, enter the following text into the field exactly as it appears below, and then press Enter:

%PROGRAMDATA%

5. Locate the WRData folder. This folder may not be present; if it is not, then continue to Part 2. If it is present, right-click the WRData folder and select Rename. Change the name to WRData1.

* * Part 2: Install * *

To reinstall, click the link below:

http://anywhere.webrootcloudav.com/zerol/wsafnl.exe

1. Save the file to your desktop.
2. Double-click “wsafnl.exe” to run the installer.
3. Enter your keycode when prompted.
4. Click Agree and Install.
5. If asked "Would you like to automatically import the settings that were used in your previous installation?", click No. Webroot SecureAnywhere reinstalls itself.

This will provide temporary relief for the issue, but it is necessary to uninstall and reinstall the program using the most recent version once this has been patched. I will plan on following-up once I receive word that this fix has been pushed out. If you have any questions in the meantime, please let me know.

Fix is still in progress.

If you have the same problem, remember to contact their support via a ticket and provide whatever info they ask for. The more info they have, the easier it should be to find a fix.

Anyone has their issue fixed?

I didn't do anything but last night I reinstalled Webroot and played the game.

This morning, I was able to play it too without uninstalling Webroot.

I will try it out again later after work but it seems they stealth patched the issue.

It's working again for me after a reinstallation of Webrot and I've been able to load the game more than once in the past few hours. The last time I tried uninstalling and reinstalling webroot it didn't work, so it would seem that you're correct.

Did you reboot after reinstalling webroot? Because I seem to recall that was also part of it.
