Lots of people with AMD gpus having crashes. Personally I had one crash last night in GL fighting a Dodogama. Game froze but I could still hear and talk through discord but couldn’t tab out. Then about 30 seconds later the game crashed and gave me the ERR 12 graphics device crash. I noticed on hwinfo that my GPU core %, GPU compute 0 %, and one other thing relating to GPU usage all spiked to 100% during the crash. When I restarted the game it said the dx12 api failed to load. I turned it back on, restarted the game, and played for 3-4 hours with no issues. RTX 2070S though.

nothing to do with hi-res texture pack. I've got it disabled and it keeps happening.

If you are getting a lot of err12 errors, it could be your card is damaged. My 1.5 year old 1080ti started crashing every 10 mins in game this Monday. No amount of settings or driver changes would fix it. Then it started crashing in all games and pixelated the monitors a couple of times. EVGA RMAed the card. The card never saw over 60 degrees Celsius (hybrid cooled card).

It’s weird I have never had a crash in any game before I started playing MHW and I got a few err12 after the main story. I wonder if there is something in their coding that cause the card to run wide open or something. I’ll be using Monitoring software 100% of the time once I get my new card to keep an eye on clock speeds and ♥♥♥♥ to see what’s going on. IIRC I think I saw the clock hit over 2200 at one point when I was checking the card.
I watched the story sequence without direct x 12 and after that i put it on again and now it works, so for me it was bugged in that sequence idk

I am playing much more demanding games on the gpu, like DCS flight simulator for example, my card is rather new ( about 5 months old) and works really well with all the games i play, no issue whatsoever :/

I have 32gb ram and the graphic card has plenty of vram too so it is not this either.

The high res texture pack disabled doesnt change anything so i put it back on, the only thing that fixed the crash for me tonight was to revert back to directx11.

It is clearly an optimization problem of MHW Iceborne from the last update this week , i had the game working like a charm before. They basically messed up in the coding/graphic driver optimization..

I dont understand, with all the money they earned from this game, why they did not test their update on the most popular cards on the market before releasing it, especially since this err12 crash is not new, many people had the issue at the initial iceborne release...

Same for the network error that disconnects you so often ( error code 400-MHW1), I wonder when they will finally address that issue. These two technical problems are my only gripe with what is otherwise an amazing game.

DX12 and the HD Texture pack are broken with AMD cards right now. I have a Radeon VII, and the only way I can play the game without it crashing at some point is by disabling DX12 and disabling the HD Texture Pack. With DX12 and the HD pack enabled, the game crashes at character load; with only DX12, the game crashes at cut scenes and when I change equipment; with DX11 and the HD Texture Pack, the game randomly crashes within an hour.

The game ran fine using DX12 and the HD Texture pack on the same driver (20.1.3) before the update.

Try this, It worked for me but no guarantee.
