"quest failed",, well thank you for that bad game design, another wasted 30 minutes..
Wtf developers, did really anyone in your QA team think this game was fun??
I spend several minutes tracking down my prey, combat him, chase him as he flee and repeat this five times. Mission is to capture him, but I dont see him "stagger" or limp woundedly as supposed to, so I keep attacking him.

I see a few flaws in the gamedesign here:
1. There is NO visible damage on his model at all (Poor gamedesign), so he looks as healthy just before he dies as he does when I started the combat. I have no way to keep track on how near death he is, so have no idéa when its time to try and trap him.
2. There is no health bar on him (again bad gamedesign), so I have yet again no way to keep track on how badly wounded he is.
3. Lets be honest, it is NOT fun to have to chase a target all over the map five times. At least keep it random so maybe sometimes the prey will only flee once, while other times it may flee up to those five times, but please dont force us to waste gametime doing this booring chase every, frakking, time.
4. Combat needs to be improved. The response feels so sluggish in this game, for example camera is facing target, I'm pressing W to attack "forward" direction of the camera, but my stupid characters starts to attack into the air left of the screen. Please developers, try some other similar games and watch how they succeeded where you did not.
5. Repeat, grind, repeat, grind, repeat, grind.... Ugh.. Feels like I'm back with World of Warcraft doing quests to kill 100 wolves to get 10 pelts that sell for 2 copper each so I can buy that horse worth 100gold.. Difference is that WoW have much more fun combat compared to this clunky game.
6. Traps. I can only carry one?! And I get only ONE chanse to use it, and if I miss and the prey takes off in a totaly different direction, then I'm forced to either cancel the mission or walk back to camp and get another one from the storage box (that is, if I even HAVE another trap in the storage, else I'm again forced to cancel the quest)?
Why cant I pick it up again so I can replace it? Why cant I carry more than one? So frustrating dumb mechanic!

Start patching, focus to make the game fun and invest some time to give the models some proper visible damage and healthbars. Please.
For now, I give up on these "capture" quests, I have so far never managed to complete one. Sure, you can say it is I that is bad at the game since it seems to be working for everyone else, but imho I think it is the game that have bad mechanics that could be improved so everyone (including me) can enjoy it.

*this is writen when I'm the most♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥at the game mechanics, so please excuse my language and salty tears* :steamsad:

>There is NO visible damage on his model at all
Yes there is. Fix your eyes.
>There is no healthbar on him
Refer to my previous answer.
>it is NOT fun to have to chase a target all over the map five times.
I agree, they should've implemented the open areas better or just kept loading screens in instead of replacing them with long hallways that you chase the monster in.
>Combat needs to be improved.
Yeah, nah. Get good.
>Difference is that WoW have much more fun combat compared to this clunky game.
Alright, you're a special one aren't you?
>Traps. I can only carry one?!
Nope, you can carry a shock and pitfall trap and then carry two more trap tools + net or thunderbug plus the EZ Trap you get from capture quests.
>Sure, you can say it is I that is bad at the game
Wow, I didn't even need to write this entire post then.

Monster Hunter is a Hunting game. It's not like 99% of the games out there so comparing WoW to this game is uh.....pointless on a lot of things. The only game that can be compared is Toukiden since it's Koei Tecmo's version of Monster Hunter but with Oni.

Now since Monster Hunter is a Hunting Game and not just some mindless hack n slash game where it gives you all information you need on a silver platter lets review the health bit. There is such a thing. However it's in the monster's behavior. As you get the monster closer to death they will limp away in an attempt to go rest at their nest. Thus signifying "Oh hell I need to sleep Im too weak for this." thus also telling you "hey you can trap this monster and capture it." Another sign of showing they are weak is if they leave to go eat food. That's normally more around the 50% health mark I think (could be wrong thanks to Bazelgeuse). So basically you have to think like a hunter if you are gonna play a hunting game. Yes you have to actually think in this game. Welcome to Monster Hunter.

There are 3 ways of telling if the monster is ready for capture

1. Limping + crying noises they make as they try to get to their nest
2. Their icon in the radar/mini-map will have a small skull coming off them
3. Their heart rate appears close to a flatline.

Might want to read a guide...

Best way to tell IMO. Please note that this will only show up if you have a full firefly bar on the monster you're hunting.

Also if the monster is running away limping chances are it's going to their nest/resting place, you can place a trap next to it while it's still asleep, as long as there are no terrain restrictions.

Thank you!
1. I knew about the limping (but I've managed to kill targets before they limped away, so it was before never a trustworthy sign). And for some reason this game is at 30% sound compared to all other games, so I never bother tuning up the volume on my speakers when I play MHW, so I wasnt aware they made a different sound when hurt. Hopefully the sound will be patched as I'm not the only one having that problem.
2. Didnt know about this one, so it will be helpfull.
3. I just noticed the heartrate. :D

Finaly was able to capture my first target after so many tries without killing it. (sucks I dont get to harvest the corpse when I actually do kill it and fail the mission).
And thanks for the info that I can carry different types of traps. Was a bit annoying to carry only one and missplace it, from now on I wait till the creature sleeps. :steamhappy:

Combat still feels clunky thought. And I agree, WoW is not the best to compare with.
I guess I could have taken games like Brutal Legend, Dynasty Warrior, Dead Rising, Space Marine, Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor, etc etc as examples instead..
Those games have a much smoother feel to the combat and the controls.
I guess a Starcraft player would feel the same playing a game like Stronghold (where Starcraft is Dynasty Warriors and Stronghold is Monster Hunter World as comparision). :steamsad:

View guides and look up the message boards for tips. The PS4 gamefaqs one is a good source, the game's been out since late January and people have already mastered it all, and spoke about how you can do the same. Do your due diligence.

This is an old franchise, and several aspects you complain about are hold overs from the previous iterations, and more than a few people especially the Japanese may have different opinions. Try to keep an open mind and see things the way the game was meant to be played, and you'll get the most out of it. Same as everything else.
