You can also attach to the face of a non-enraged monster, smack it with the claw to force it to turn 90 degrees, and fire the base amount of your slinger ammo to force it to run forward and crash into walls, over cliffs, or other monsters. This deals a percentage of the monster's total health (I don't remember the amount), and knocks it over for a short time. This is also an effective way of grounding a flying monster.
The monster will be thrown to the wall and take massive damage before being knocked down to the ground for you to perform your best weapon combo or tenderize
Make sure the monster is not enraged or it will not work (can't redirect it with the claw and can't throw it to the wall)

Also, it will take some experience to know where the monster is actually facing, I can't tell you how many times I used the claw to change a monster's direction thinking it it wasn't facing a wall, only to end up throwing the monster directly into the path and not hit anything. Basically, watch where the body is facing, not the head. Can still be difficult to guess when the monster is in the middle of an attack animation.
if you dont have iceborn i dont think you get to use claw attacks.
But we still get the clagger and the Weakness Exploit nerf, though...which sucks
If you're not going to get CC for just the base game, the Clagger and the Weakness Exploit nerf are just hindrances
hey did you know that without iceborne you dont get the clutch claw?
If you don't own Iceborne, go install ICE mod. It undoes a lot of that so you can enjoy the pre-Iceborne game again
Can you get through CC? Definitely.
Can you get through without clagger? No, its still there
