Here's a progression guide. It might help: https://imgur.com/a/roLBS9l
For example, if you focus on pierce ammo make sure you are positioned for the bullet to go through as much of the monster as possible (shooting from head to tail, or tail to head), if you use spread know the proper distance to get the most out of every pellet, and focus on weak points to get the most damage, and the same for other types of ammo.
Also your weapons reload speed for ammo types is IMPORTANT. If you want to focus on a spread build, you better have a bow gun that has normal to fast reload speed for spread ammo (and decent capacity) otherwise you DPS is severely limited. If you still have low reload speed, stack a few reload mods to it to see how much you can speed up that process.
Also Quick Sheath, evasion extender, and evasion window are highly favored as it makes sure that even if you make a mistake you can get out of the way of monster attacks quickly.
I'm not pro but I started HBG once the return to world event started and its a pretty good weapon once you get many of these things down. People act like HGB/LBG are simple/easy weapons yet they require a good bit of game knowledge and micro managing to really get full potential out of them, which is why I actually really like the HBG.
Lol what? HBG is consistently the strongest weapon in the game from start to finish. Maybe you are using a bowgun with slow reload and high recoil?
This, if your suing spread for a monster that has tons of plating/armor you need to either break parts to make them weak or find the weakpoints to deal the big damage.
Saw this right after I wrote mine, MR September on point as usual.
Lol No, get use to the HBG on lower rank monsters and then you will get it in no time. Just so you know I'm not a HMW pro and I was able to easily learn the weapon these past few weeks. Like with most weapons in this game some of them click with you some don't, but its a good weapon if you understand the micro managing aspects of ammo, mods, reload spead, positioning (needed for every weapon),...etc.
Edit: If the HBG is not clicking with you go to another weapon type!
big sword. WAY easier. man....wtf trash balance.
Its just not you cup of tea and thats fine. HBG works perfectly fine in Early game and end game, its just if your not able to get shots off your time to kill and dps is very limited.
