It is doing wonders in speedruns , it got a whole new playstyle with frostcraft (way faster might suit you better , comes with quick sheath) and it still does bonkers damage when you hit with it.
You basically take a bunch of potshots with GS. Until you can afford to do a TCS, of course. You can't just expect the monster to wait and take it. You gotta learn monster movesets really well, and create openings often. Especially for fast monsters.
You just really need to learn when and where to attack with it, and much of that is learning how the monsters behave and move around.
Just look up some GS users on Youtube.. some of them are insanely good players.
If you're just not getting it though it's perfectly okay to swap to another weapon and find one that fits your playstyle better.
I've come to like GS quite a lot in my current playthrough but I still kinda suck with it XD
S&S is still the weapon that fits my best but I am enjoying using other weapons to shake things up.
You just need to learn their moveset and how to exploit it and that is it, just do the same thing ad nauseam. GS also really benefits from QoL skills like earplugs and quick sheathe.
Remember that you can't always TCS or even do a basic charged attack, sometimes you can only afford to do a basic draw attack.
