How has it changed?
I last played back in 2018. I enjoyed it at first, but it turned into such a slow grind to improve my equipment that I just wasn't having fun anymore.
Given that it's been like 6 years, have things improved upgrade speed-wise? I don't want everything tomorrow, but back then I was looking at weeks for a single upgrade. (I play solo, so killing bigger monsters is kind of slow).

Nothing has changed in those regards. But I would also say your rate of progression is far below the average user. One should be able to craft entire sets of armor and new weapons within an hour or three of hunting a monster for the first time; certainly not weeks.

First off, if you're taking weeks to get a single upgrade I don't know what to to tell ya. You can get a fully upgraded entire kit in a day EASILY just by doing the main path/optional hunts alone. 2 things is you're either exaggerating (which on these forums is more possible than everyone thinks) or you're not looking at the right stats for the weapon your using at the time. Picking a main weapon that you're most comfortable with goes a long way.

Also if you play solo it's the perfect way to learn the monster moves aka when to attack, when to run away, when you can trade blows, utilizing traps, flinch shots etc. to make your hunts much much faster. The monster health is scaled down solo and increased for each additional player in the hunt.

Basically you just need to learn the game more and you're progression will go much faster. I dunno what else to say as the game basically gives you every single tool for success you can think of.

Utilize them.

Having said that, I assume you're not at end game so the long grind hasn't even started yet. So if you do not like grinding then this game is most definitely not for you. If you do like learning and improving yourself and be rewarded greatly for it then I would say stick it out. It's one of the best games I've ever played.

i have no reason to read the patch notes myself though.
since you played in 2018, iceborn wasnt released yet.
there is defender gear now (armor and weapons) that you absolutely do not want to use., because it turns you into god.

Id expect the game to be easier and more convinient now than it was in 2018.
At the end of each mission you are now showered in boss related crafting materials, judging from my MHFU experience i bet this wasnt the case in 2018.

what you probably forgot: you can cut off tails and monsters will lose some materials when you attack their head.

---

just a little reference:
for a full anja alpha-set+ anja weapon (fire t-rex, mission level 6) , id need to kill it around ~6 times, but since we get showered in materials, all my equipment is already so strong that the poor anja has no chance. 6*15 minutes would still be a lot of time but it atleast sounds managable.

It didn't change. The core game loop is the same. If you still don't like grinding in video games after all these years, then look elsewhere.

its better now. Spam fatalis. It never gets boring.

We have Arch temper velk and Tempered furious rajang. Alatreon too. But fatalis is the best.

Even when your tired of it, if you are in there and you can be one or two shot, you are not bored. Such a simple fix for the grind, insert an unusually powerful monster. Even with the best gear possible, if divine blessing doesnt proc, you will take the lords damage.

I always go for odo gear in high rank and early master and it takes like five hunts of it, maybe you're not doing much damage? I'm pretty ass at the game, you could also just be in the mindset that you take more time to finish stuff solo than you actually do
