KBM or Controller?

This is my first MH and I don't know which one is better.

Which one do you recommend most and why?

Controller IMO. There are several features that require holding down several keys and sometimes a directional command at once, that is far easiest in the middle of a hunt with a controller.

I'm using an Xbox controller and so is someone else in my MHW group.

Unless you want to play ranged weapon, then i hear kbm can be superior for the aiming feeling, but youll want to edit the keybinds to your preferences, the default is a bit funny

This is a PC game, so KBM - just mind your re-binds to keep some consistency between melee and range (or not, if you never use both).
Or there's Keyboard-only, or KBC.
Sky's the limit, or something.

Understatement, the default ranged binds are the default melee binds.
Which works fine enough on a controller where every button is a thumb-press anyways.
From an FPS standpoint, completely and utterly wrong.
But it can be re-bound, it can be macroed, or whatever else you can think of.

i personally believe with a kbm you just have more general control over your gameplay than a controller, but a controller is easier to play with.

in general if you can go thru the hussle of binding ur keys to ur liking kbm is way better than controller, but if u just want to play the game and dont care about how you play go with a controller.

it should be controller, but i play kbm but rely heavily on the side buttons as someone that plays ls and hammer once in a while. I play kbm for both rise and world and can say world isnt nice to kbm players compared to rise

if you plan on playing a ranged weapons - light/heavy bowgun or bow, use kbm

Controller is the original way to play, as MH had never existed anywhere else but consoles before World. It's easier for melee as all buttons are accessible.

KNM is the superior way to play for people who can get into it though, especially for range. It has superior cam control and faster, more accurate aim.

KBM needs some adjustments, but I can recommend it. I never felt like I needed to use my controller to play the game and played for 1600-something hours.

PS: I came up with that scheme right after the controls changed at the release of Iceborne. Mind that some weapons might be too tiresome to play due to the scheme, because CTRL is used as some key actions like Hammer charge. I have CTRL, SHIFT and ALT on my thumb buttons just for this. I don't own a fancy MMO mouse, either. Just a trusty G502 Hero I have been using for quite some time. Only has three thumb buttons.

I started with Controller, then tried KBM. KBM is better as it is far more advantageous with the use to shortcut keys instead of bringing up the shortcut wheel on controller.

Just play with whatever you are most comfortable with, there is no "objectively better" option and, even if there was, it's a PvE game so it's not like any granted advantages would be majorly beneficial or anything lol
