Elder dragon tail cuts
So to cut elder dragons tails , do I have to reduce them below 30% percent health, then and only then can their respective tails can be cut?

Nope. Severing a tail has nothing to do with the monster's remaining health.

Oh ok thanks I thought its similar to older games like freedom unite

Nope.

Headbreaks for some EDs are HP-gated though

Deal enough damage to the tail, then use a severing attack to pop it off. Even a hammer can do it, thanks to the trusty boomerang.

Alatreon has horn break protection outside of dragon mode, and Fatalis head has so much health you're doing most of the fight anyway.

I'm fairly positive blunt damage counting towards tail cut is just a myth, gonna test it rq since I'm in-game.

Edit: Tested. Complete and utter BS, blunt isn't helping when it comes to cutting off tails

For reference, Fatalis has 3 entire bars of 9900 HP for his head, if you play as a party of 3 or 4. He reels every time a bar is emptied, though, and his head can't be broken during certain transitional animations.

His tail can't be cut, by the way. Just a heads-up. Another good reason to focus the head, then the chest. Depending on weapon and damage type, of course.

You can cut Alatreon's tail, but it's the same deal as Fatalis for the most part. You are better off targeting the head or other weak spots (like front/hind legs) instead.

PS: Mind that part HP can be reduced faster if you use Partbreaker. Also, Clutch Claw attacks don't reduce part HP except the last hit for many weapons. Maybe that's why ZSD spam is popular... Even if it's dealing crap damage, if all of the hits do deal part damage, it would still be viable.

How do people STILL believe this? Or is this intentional misinformation??

it depends on the monster.
certain monster need certain conditions to cut their tails
like glavenus needs a sharpened tail to unlock the option to cut it
velkhana was similiar

False information. Blunt weapons don't contribute to severing tails.
