As title says. i have already verified game files twice and nothing was out of the ordinary. Trying to come back to the game after a couple years off and this is off to a poor start lol. Any ideas?

Perform a clean install. The easiest and shortest way to do a clean installation is to delete all the files in game directory EXCEPT the "chunk" folder (to not redownload the entire game), the "chunkhipc" folder (if you use High Res textures, to not redownload them) and "graphics_option.ini" (to keep your graphics settings). Then verify the game via Steam to redownload the "missing" files. It will download a bunch of files. You now have a clean installation.

The reason I recommend this is because reinstalling or verifying doesn't solve some issues, since some files get left behind.

Thank you this worked. Now i gotta get back into the game which is a very big challenge in itself. Should i restart from zero or play my previous save again?

If you took a really long break (maybe a year or more), I recommend starting over. Unless you think you can remember what you were doing.

You don't have to overwrite your previous save anyway. You can just start a new one, progress a bunch, then return to your main save.
