its most likely due to MH wilds announcement and more people prefer the gameplay and style of MHW

No.

World + Iceborne are on largest discount currently, there is a "return to World" Capcom campaign, and MH: Wilds got announced.

I will always say Rise + Sunbreak is the worst mainline monster hunter game thus far (because of the wirebugs and the non-monsters designed to combat it, using sluggish attacks + mid attack homing but no animations to indicate it does as such), but it really isn't the main reason for it.

Keep in mind, World was already over double the average concurrent Rise playerbase before the listed major reasons. All the recent stuff just gave it a massive boost to make it somewhere around four or five times.

Dig how I see a Twitter post about how this discourse of "World > Rise" does not exist, then I go to Steam boards and this is the first thread I see.

Both games are fine. There's a campaign underway. I played Rise a ton and felt like World again. I'm not obligated to uninstall and leave a negative review to Rise in order to boot up World, there's no Us Vs Them, we're not rooting for two sports teams and only one can come out on top.

It's just World players obsessing about Rise rent free.

Asmongold, one of the biggest streamers is currently playing the game. 1.1 million views, that should say something https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ULz20VvUpHQ&t=495s

As for Rise, well its a completely different game from World, its more focused on fast gameplay, ugly graphics, mobile port. This video sums things up pretty well https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ugXx6vHHYpg&t=1s

World has an event going on, and ppl just like it. Folks should take this as a chance to ENJOY WORLD, not sh-- on Rise for basically no reason lol.

CAPCOM themselves telling us to play World with the "back to world" campaign after wilds reveal and completely ignoring Rise is a huge factor in the resurgence and tells a lot about what wilds will eventually be.

This.

Like always: Rise was aimed towards the Switch. The Switch platform has a around 10 year YOUNGER playerbase than the rest of the gaming market (official numbers from Nintendo themselves) and the gameplay of Rise reflects that.

The team behind rise/sunbreak is also a mix of people working on different titles, but we are not talking about "the best of the best" of each team here but the majority being just some random people which have nothing to say to begin with.

We can even assume that certain incredible talented people left the company because of Rise. For example: Daisuke Ichihara. It is claimed he did it to pursue some career with ILCA but if you actually read the interview and paid attention to it it was clear he was upset and frustrated by something.

Asmon only started playing after hearing the game was popping off again. We cant credit the return to world to him

MH:Rise has terrible online features. MH:World is better in that regard and it looks so much better than it too. World is just a more iconic and fun game.

Also wirebugs are a TERRIBLE idea

I don't think there's ever been a resurgence so to speak. If you go back a few months, before Wilds was announced and Capcom started the Back to World campaign, you'll see videos arguing why there's a divide in the community regarding World vs. Rise and why World always had more concurrent players on Steam.

I played the Rise demo yesterday and after a few minutes, my main take would be that Rise feels like a stopgap instead of MH6, which is true. Wilds is MH6, not Rise, which was never intended as such. It's not uncommon for people to gravitate towards the main course instead of the side dish.

And not that I'm a graphic ho, but it's quite jarring to look at Rise on PC coming from World. The humongous, pixelated interface really stood out to me, followed by the outdated lighting techniques and flat terrain (as in, there's not a lot going on visually in the maps compared to World, cluttered as it may be at times).

I've seen an excuse that Rise had to look like this because of the Switch, but I believe Capcom could've done a much better job porting it to PC and more powerful consoles seeing as it's running on the RE Engine. Heck, I saw someone suggesting that anyone disappointed with how Rise looks and feels won't like Wilds because it'll use the same engine, which is such an ignorant take given this is the same engine powering the Resident Evil remakes, RE7, 8, and DMC5. Those games only go to show that Capcom didn't put much effort into the Rise ports, even if they didn't start out on a handheld console.

But the gameplay might also have something to do with it 😂 Obviously. I did not like what I saw in the demo. The controls felt a little awkward coming from World, and it's not because of that wirebug thing. I also saw people saying Rise is a callback to classic MH, that it's an important step to look back because that's what MH is all about, not World. I gotta call bs on that, cuz besides the environments, Rise doesn't compare to 4U gameplay-wise, to use an example that many would consider classic.

All in all, Rise is just a weird entry in its attempt to stick to the franchise's older design philosophies while attempting to build upon some of World's ideas for gameplay. This isn't a 4U vs. Generations situation, not by a long shot, which might be why there's such a disdain towards Rise and how drastic a shift it is from the game that put the series on the map (cuz let's not kid ourselves, MH was never this big prior to World, especially when it kept to Nintendo consoles for a few important entries).
