This, Iceborne isnt just a DLC its a full blown expansion and has more content than the base game, its stunning.
Main reason? Monster Hunter doesn't mash with everyone, esp if youre new to the franchise
dont be such a ♥♥♥♥.
I bought the base game first and when I found out I really like it, I got iceborne as well.
Iceborne adds a few things to the base game; the claw and mounting small monsters. The rest is exactly the same (from what I've seen so far).
99% of the DLC is added after you've played the main quest.
The base game is definitely worth it. I only bought Iceborne because it was still on sale and I like the game so much, but it certainly isn't necessary to enjoy MH.
After Iceborne, some stuff also got changed in the base game for (consistency) reasons, but not having access to an Iceborne mechanic while being subjected to the changes would be a little frustrating.
I'll give a "hesitant yes". It's worth it, but to get the authentic base game experience, you have to use some mods to disable/revert some of the changes.
The actual challenge and content is arguably in Iceborne, though. World without Iceborne is basically half of the game at this point.
Granted the expansion has a lot of content, but theres plenty of challenge to be found with the vanilla AT Monsters :)
I'm pretty sure most people just straight up skip the Event Quests and Optional Quests in the base game, then proceed into Iceborne. Not owning Iceborne might actually let people have the intended base game experience, I think, so it's genuinely not a bad idea to buy Iceborne later.
Don't get me wrong, they are challenging (and fun), but that doesn't make them less of a hassle. Especially some questionable moves like AT Nergigante's dive having a hitbox below it, so you get obliterated if you're below it while it's in the air.
I'd even recommend doing it that way, enjoy the base game, clear everything you want to clear and then upgrade your experience with IB if you feel the need to go further.
Completely Agree
