Elemental Resistance List
Is there a list anywhere of which attacks used by which monsters are reduced by which elemental resistances?

Any elemental attack's damage get reduced by the apropriate resistance. If it's physical it's obvious that your overall physical defense reduced the damage taken. Rule of thumb if it's a slap , a tail whack it's physical. If it's a beam or a (FLAME) thrower it's elemental. I never thought that it would be hard to determine which elemental monster deals what damage.

True with one small details left out, elemental attacks do still have a physical component that cant be resisted. Stacking your resistances isnt as strong as it may seem... 1 resistance is 1% dmg reduction to the elemental portion of the attack iirc but thats only like 50% (really rough approximation) of the attack.

All attacks are mainly physical. That's why playing ranged is usually suicide since the "less elemental damage taken" does not offset the extra physical damage you take.

As for the answer to your question: You can just get 20 or higher elemental resistance against any relevant monster and forget about it. You can check what element they use in the hunter's book that is accessible in the game, or you can use your eyes and see what the monster can cast. Apart from a few examples, most monsters use one element, anyway.

Dont bother with resistances unless youre trying to negate status effects. Don't get defense boost. Go with comfort/stay alive skills. Evade window, evade extender, Recovery up, health boost, speed eating, divine blessing will all do much more for your survivability.
