how do you deal with tall monsters?
monsters like brachydios,glavenus,deviljho,val-hazzak,anjanath...
they all have a very high stance, they lean their head backwards, or are very tall, making hitting their heads almost impossible.

how do you deal with them? i play mostly hammer and SnS, do i just go for the legs and pray for a trip?

Yup. Just keep stabing under the monster's nail or smash their pinky till they trip. You can also mount for a couple more trips or smash them against a wall if you have Iceborne.

Same way you'd reach the face of anything tall. Break their legs and cut them down to your size.

And there's no "pray" for a trip. It's quite mathematical.

I play a fair bit of hammer, you can hit the heads of all those monsters with it, which is exactly where you wanna be aiming anyway.
Cant speak for SnS, i assume perfect rush their legs until you knock em over, and use flinch shots.

chop the tree at the base.

keep hitting the same foot, and they'll eventually fall over and go 'ahh my knee ahhhhh' - thats when you can smash the brain box. this is not 'praying' this is a damage threshold that never changes, you can always knock it down if you deal 'x' damage to the monster's 'bodypart' not just the leg, either.

some tall monsters will sometimes have a 1.2x size modifier, making it almost impossible to hit the head with a melee weapon, so in those cases, lead it to a part of the arena you can jump off the obstacles to attack, or run up the wall and jump attack.

other times its best to enrage it then lead it to a different area with obstacles.

you can always pick the helicopter staff but i hate that thing and dont play it =p

Contrary to popular belief, weapons are tools and you should use them accordingly, if you are having a hard time cutting tails or reaching a particular part of a monster, try using a weapon with more range! Now that said, barring some exceptions all monsters have openings in which you can snipe their head/tail/wings or whatever you are in need to break or hit with pretty much any weapon you can think of, being SnS and DBs the only ones that truly suffer from awful range and having to snipe at the foot of the monsters most of the time.

For hammer I usually just wall bang them and otherwise slide aerial attack them until mount and topple, I'm addicted to hammer + gliding mantle. :mhwgood:
hit their legs for 15 damage then pray they will die after 20 minutes

What the others said, plus with time you will learn "when they do X".
There is no variation on their movements, each one is always done in the exact same way, so with time, you will learn the perfect timing to attack.

It will not matter if the monster is "not in the right position" or "out of your reach", one day you will start seeing how they magically put their heads under your hammer at th exact right moment.

It's very satisfying.

SNS is really really good at mounting so you either lop at the legs till it falls over. Or try to mount the beast and slinger burst into walls/bonk the ♥♥♥♥ out of him. I love SNS

Are you playing with a weapon with red sharpness on everything you face ?

That low dmg can only happen if you run low lvl weapons with litttle to no sharpness and attack the monster where it is strongest with no tenderize.

To be fair, red pits wall bang a monster or activate/set up traps like anything else.

i had the sns girros AB4 , fully upgraded armors, do 10-15 dmg on the legs, the monster two shots me, you can't claw deviljho legs because it counts as back hitbox, just ♥♥♥♥ game balance when they buff monster hz to force people use claw
